hello everyone! in case you didnt know it yet, i made it safe to the other end of the world. the flight took about 18 hours, and by hour 9, i wanted to kill myself. i dont think i want to do that again in the near future. but, thank god for step up 2, or i might have wanted to kill myself sooner. the guy who ended up sitting next to me for the 18 hours of hell was actually a really nice thai guy. he is the first of many thai people who actually think im thai!!! finally, a place where i fit in! if it wasnt for him, the flight would have been much, much worse. so, yay! i made my first thai friend... that was easy! hopefully i can drag him to battle of the year asia! later that night, i got to my apartment that my school set me up with. my studio is about 100 times bigger than my room in ny! i have my own bathroom (missing sharing with you, 507!.... not really) AND, rent is about $100 dollars a month. are you freakin kidding me! on top of that, a taxi cab ride is about 50 cents each and a bottle of coke in a glass bottle cost 30 cents... ive died and gone to heaven! i loooooooooooooooooooove thailand!
the next day, i went to the school to get "oriented." whatever that means, although it was nice to meet all my new-found teaching friends. most of them are around 22-27. half are american, and the other half are from the UK. i was lucky to have my first day on THE all-time low for school lunches: fishballs and rice. yummmmmmmmmmmmy. needless to say, i didnt eat much lunch that day... lets hope it gets better from here on out!
on day 3, i was given my timetable of the classes i was going to teach for the year. that gave me literally gave me about 5 mins (i swear to god) to prepare my lesson and go teach. that was a disaster to say the least, but i got through it. i had 3 other classes to teach that day, which went much more smoothly than the first class. thank god. unlike my friends who did the JET program, you are the english teacher. no being an assistant teacher, no assistants helping you... just you in front of about 40 students trying to teach them english on a friday afternoon in a room that is 100 degrees. it is really hard. what was i thinking when i signed up for this?? some of the kids are really cute though, and even though i still say i hate kids, i guess i dont mind them so much.
which brings me to today. i found a place that makes fried chicken better than popeyes and for about 60 cents. i can now die a happy woman.
hope all is well back in the states. i really miss everyone, so please visit. the door is always open!
ps. my ride to work in the mornings.... an elephant. :)
