Today was our favorite port, Cozumel. This is now my fifth time here and Kyle's third time. We never get sick of it and want to plan our next vacation to come stay here for a week. We’ve talked about retiring in this area and I loved Playa Del Carmen when I went 10 years ago, so I think that for our next vacation we will go there. Today we did the Salsa, Salsa, and Margarita excursion. We learned how to make a traditional margarita, a frozen strawberry margarita and a bunch of different salsas. I don’t really like to drink and we recently discovered by accident that I really like tequila, so I thought that learning to make margaritas would be fun. It was! The basic margarita was great! The frozen strawberry margarita tasted more like a smoothie, it was great. The salsas were okay, but I did really like the guacamole we made.
During the session they keep refilling your margarita. While making salsa they bring out some small munchie food, like chips and a couple of chicken taquitos and cheese quesadillas. Since neither of us like to dance we decided to check out the pool while the others learned to salsa dance. The pool was big and pretty nice. It was really warm. We stayed for about 20-30 minutes and then went back to the group. They were just finishing salsa lessons and we all got in line to take the taxis back to the ship. We decided to take a taxi downtown since we still had a few hours. It cost $8 from where we were and later back to the ship. We walked around downtown for an hour or two and stopped for lunch at a place called Pancho’s Backyard. The food there was priced around what I would expect for such a touristy area (around $13 per plate) and the food was pretty good. I got the shrimp quesadilla and Kyle got the chicken quesadilla. We definitely didn’t leave hungry! We ended up spending about $100 on 2 big bottles of tequila and 2 big bottles of orange liqueur (they used orange liqueur in the margaritas, I definitely prefer that over the triple sec). It was way cheaper than we could get it for in the states and we have enough alcohol to make margaritas for the next year or two! Hopefully by the time we run out we will be in Mexico again.
We had heard about a store called Del Sol. It’s really known for its t-shirts and they also sell nail polish, some cheap jewelry, flip-flops, sunglasses and a few other things. All of the things they sell change colors in the sunlight. We got Kyle a really nice gray t-shirt. When it’s in the sunlight some blue appears. We really love the shirt, it’s a great idea! If you see Del Sol you should check it out, they have some pretty cool stuff.
Today was definitely our favorite day. We always love Cozumel. We skipped the show again tonight (way too tired!) and had dinner in the dining room late, around 8 or so and just lazed around after a long day in the sun and heat.
