Off Exploring
I planned this trip so that I'd be in Monterey for my birthday because it's my favorite city in California. It's so nice being back here, I can't even explain it. I forgot some things...like the way the air feels. I miss that. And I missed the fog. I got to see it today for the first time in 4 years. Sounds crazy I know, but I love seeing the fog again. I woke up this morning at 6 and couldn't sleep so I decided to hit the road. Luckily no parking tickets this time. The good thing about leaving so early is that I hit no traffic what so ever leaving L.A. There was traffic going into L.A. but none going out. I made it to Monterey pretty early too, around 1 or 2 or so. I went to Cannery Row and Old Fisherman's Wharf, which are the only things I had planned. I ended up stumbling across the 17 mile drive. Weird cause I lived in Santa Cruz for 5 years and have never even heard of the 17 mile drive. It cost $9.25 which kinda sucked because I went over my budget in L.A. and am trying to stick to $20 a day for the next few days. It was worth it to do that drive though. Lots of the houses along that drive rival those that I saw in Beverly Hills and L.A. I'd rather live in one of the houses on the Monterey Bay cause I'd prefer a view of Monterey Bay over Rodeo Drive any day. It's now only 5:30 and I'm in the hotel in my PJs and not planning on going out again tonight. The last few nights I haven't slept well...the hostel in L.A. was a great location but it was also really loud. Plus I was always wondering if I was getting a parking ticket. It will be nice here to have my own room and to know that I won't be getting a ticket or towed. Tomorrow I am heading to Santa Cruz to stay at my friend Kate's house. I can't wait to see her. It's been 4 years! She won't be home from work until 6 or so, so I will entertain myself somehow. I was thinking of heading to Carmel and maybe Big Sur if that's on the way. I know I will spend some time in Santa Cruz reminiscing too. I'll probably stop by my old community college and just drive around Santa Cruz. And, of course, I will be getting my shrimp burrito. And going to Trader Joe's...and Togo's...and Erik's Deli and Cafe. All the stuff we don't have in Colorado. Now I'm hungry...luckily I bought some food from Safeway since my room has a microwave and fridge so that will save me some money. This trip was such a good idea. I've had so much fun so far and I still have a week to go. It was great seeing Rachel and I'm really looking forward to seeing Kate tomorrow and some other people that I haven't seen for years.
