Wellll things didn't go quite as planned today! We woke up at about 9:00 a .m. Normally that would be too early, but thinking "I'm in Paris" really gets you out of bed. Both of our legs were sore from all of the walking yesterday, but we looked forward to everything!
We started off the morning by going to get breakfast. A market was set up right outside our hotel, which had all of this amazing fresh produce, purses, scarves, and other things.I had the most amazing Florentine quiche, and Bert got grapes and bread with foie gras.
Then, we headed out to the catacombs, but apparently today is a national holiday in France… and they were closed! L So we decided instead to walk around and go shopping a bit. We bought some food and had a picnic in this gorgeous park outside of the Eiffel Tower. People there were so happy and nice, and the park was fantastic… as was the meal. I could haveslept in the grass. Let me tell you, the tower is MUCH prettier in real life than any picture could convey. It was completely surreal and beautiful. Very touristy area, though. There was a huuuuuge line so we didn't climb up.
After, we went to the Arc di Triomphe, then got lost for a bit, then went to the Musee d'Orsay. I was pleased with the art there, although it was mostly Impressionism which I am not a fan of. I got to see my first Klimt original, so I was excited about that.
I just want to say - don't believe the stereotypes. Parisians are soooooo darn NICE! Even though I don't know French, they have all been incredibly polite and helpful. I have to admit I was a little bit anxious about that.
Tomorrow we wake upbright and early to take the train to Brussels!!!
