Yesterday we had a lot of elephant sitings! Cole spotted them from the top of a mountain into a river valley...he has spotted more animals than I can count! The elephants thought we got a little close at one point and the guide had to back our jeep up so that we didn't get charged by a young male!
Dad took a quick nap in the jeep and when we slammed on the brakes he nearly flew into the people in front of us...when he found out it was for a warthog he was pretty upset that we disturbed his slumber :)
There were a TON of cool birds in Hluhluwe and the terrain and panorama was absolutely amazing. Our drive home got interesting...as we headed out of the park we saw that the sky was black...really black. (Understand that we are in a 9 person jeep with no windows and only a roof for cover.) We started getting the rain jackets out (thank God Cole left them in the backpack since I told him we probably wouldn't need them!!!) and bundling up for the drive home. Luckily for us we were in the back of the jeep...I think that the people in the front got the brunt of the storm and we stayed relatively dry...accept for the rain coming off of the windshield wipers :)
The storm itself was absolutely beautiful. The lightening and thunder are amazing, and you can see it from every direction. I think this is the new "big sky country"! The storm didn't seem to come from one direction, there was lightening 360 degrees around us. It comes and goes extremely fast here though. It was pouring when we went in for dinner and by the time we came out we finally saw our first African stars!! Dad was still looking for the Big Dipper, but was unsuccessful :) Less than 15 minutes later it was completely clouded over again, and there was another huge thunderstorm last night and this morning. Avis is going to love our rental car...since there is mud all the way up to the roof!
Pretty exciting day yesterday...today is a little rainy and cold, so we haven't figured out what we will do today. Happy Monday!
