We went to Nantes, and to sum up fairly briefly just chilled out and didn't do anything much in our few days there, opting to simply relax rather than doing the usual hoards of touristy visits and activities. As mentioned we were put up by Yaelle with her brother Tituan in a great little apartment right in the centre of town.Tituan was on school holidays and working at a supermarket more or less on the same street and even with his limited English, provided us with some good company.
We spent a big chunk of one day typing this here blog and catching up with home goings on via Skype. After hearing plenty of good things about it, we were also pleased to find an English version of Inception at the nearby cinema, albeit with French subtitles.Having not had the opportunity to cook for ourselves for a while, we tried to put together a good old fashioned satay stir fry, only to realise afterward that perhaps the French don't quite stock the same range and quality of asian food options.Regardless, it was a good change from the usual eating out or uncooked supermarket dinners.
Speaking of eating out, we went to a creperie on our last night in Nantes, sharing two galettes and two sweet crepes. One of the latter definitely took out the favourite, topped with figs, warm pear, whipped cream and rum and raisin icecream.
We did a brief walk around the city to a few sights on our last day, including the cathedral, castle and France's longest river, the Loire. While we didn't give it as much of a chance as we could have, Nantes didn't really get us too excited from what we did see.In saying that it was very neat, clean and picturesque in parts, typically French as we were coming to find.
