Can you believe it?? Mum and dad left me at a boarding kennel in Broome so they could go to Cape Leveque. How stupid that I can't go I am very disappointed, although I did have fun stirring up all the dogs at the kennel. Mum was a bit sad to leave me but when I got there I took off into the pen and started barking at the other dogs. I was so excited I forgot to say goodbye!!
Mums story:
Although we had heard bad things about the Cape Leveque road and were advised to fly in, we decided wing it and have a crack at it in big Colin (our car). As we drove towards the Willie creek turn off we saw all the protestors for the proposed gas plant. They were really interesting and had turned up on motor bikes in trucks and 4x4's and even on a camel that was pulling some kind of caravan trailer contraption, and were assembled around the road with banners flying. We waved as we drove past on Beagle bay road. Surprisingly the road was perfect! Some crazy Toyota owner flew past us at over 100km per hour but we settled in to an easy pace of 80. There were a few whoop de doos but they were fun. We made it to one arm point, paid our $20 entrance fee and drove in to see zilch!!!! Not a soul in the place and not much to see. The so called lookout I am sure was below sea level!! After feeling quite ripped off we stopped in at a few tracks as we headed back to Cape Leveque. The scenery was stunning. We pulled into Cape Leveque or Kooljaman resort and thought we were going to have to pay up again just to have a look. This time we ignored the signage and walked right on in to see what all the hype was about. OMG it was stunning. As you can see from the photos we stayed at a beach shelter right on the beach with our very own cold shower in the hut. After setting up camp we swam in the jellyfish/ croc free bay and the water was like bath water. We drove down onto the beach and went for a fish but didn't really try hard so caught nothing, went for another swim and returned to camp to watch the sun go down over a couple of cold beers. We lit a fire in the drum provided then walked along the beach to see the crabs and went to bed in the rooftop tent to the sound of crashing waves aaaahhhhhh heaven! I woke at 5 to the most glorious sunrise peaking over the water on the other side. What an amazing place!
