Have been in PE for a week now and although we were both quite excited to be starting our hockey placements, they've turned out to be very disappointing. We arrived at the designated Gap Sports accommodation on Saturday afternoon only to find that it used to be a disused army barracks and they are starting to decorate it for the purpose of Gap Sports coaches.....the only problem being that they haven't got that far!
After continual cold showers, sleeping 9 people in a dorm the size of my front room, food barely edible, 4 toilets between 18 girls (2 of which broke on the 2nd day) and to top it all, a rehab centre joined to our block, we decided to find our own accommodation. We complained to the management then booked into the original place we were staying in PE.
We will upload photos of some of the training sessions we have taken so far but, to be honest, the kids we are working with are pretty used to Gap Sports coaches coming in once or twice a week and some of them treat it as a bit of a joke. It's all a bit disappointing really but we are at least relieved to be out of the accommodation, especially after hearing that it was broken into last night and that the armed response unit had to be called!!!
Anyway, we are seriously contemplating what the next 4 weeks entail and whether or not we will stick to our original plans as it's not doing exactly what it says on the tin!
Ok, will be in touch soon but will get these photos uploaded and, if poss, a video.
Keep the messages coming and those of you who have all gone back to work, Have a good term!!!
