1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8 schlemiel, schlimazel, hasenpfeffer incorporated! If you are as old as Julie and I, then you recognize this as the theme song to the Laverne and Shirley show...which takes place in Milwaukee, Wisconsin...which is where we were when we got our first ticket after thousands of miles of driving across country...and no, it wasn't for speeding. Can you imagine speeding with a trailer in tow? Before I get into how we got the ticket, let's get back to the song. Laverne and Shirley sing this song as they head to their jobs in the brewery, and a brewery tour is the number one "thing to do" in Milwaukee according to Trip Advisor, so we take the family on a tour of Lakefront Brewery when we arrive that evening. I know what you're thinking, "Is that really an appropriate activity for the kids?" Well, according to their website, kids are welcome at their parents' discretion, and root beer is available as an alternative beverage during the tour, so we got the green light, and off we go on our brewery tour. Now if you have ever been on a brewery tour, this one is pretty standard in terms of what you learn...but our guide was great. He had us singing, laughing and competing for free beer chips. CJ snorted out his root beer laughing at one of his jokes. And this is the first brewery tour where I learned that the mini kegs are called bungs, the whole to fill the keg, of course is the bung whole, and the wooden mallet to hit the plug to seal the keg is a bungwhacker. Those are just fun to say for any twelve-year-old. You can see the picture of CJ holding the bungwhacker in the photo album. We stayed for dinner after the tour and then went on a short walk along the river. Our plan was to sleep that night in a Walmart parking lot just outside the city, but Julie suggested we just stay the night on the street where we were parked outside the brewery. I wasn't so sure, but she said if we could do it in Tiburon, why not in Milwaukee. And that is how we got a ticket! At about 2:45am a parking police car pulls up along side our trailer and puts a ticket under the windshield wiper. The cost of "Doing it our way!"....twenty bucks.
