Bahram's World Tour 2006
Wow, Belize, this place is awesome. Its kind of strange coming from Guatemala, a Spanish speaking country where very few people speak English, into Belize, a British colony where everyone speaks english.
We arrived in San Ignacio in Belize, which is about 45 minutes from the border with Guatemala. Its a small town but it has a Courts superstore, yes I know, how amazing is that, the best furniture in town can be found there.
There were a number of expiditions availble to us but of course I had to go for the most adventourous one, caving, where the Mayans had settled. This wasn`t any ordinary cave, as you can see from the pictures, part of it was swimming bt most of it was walking through waste deep waters, it was awesome! Having our Russian budgie smuggler friend trying to hold his video camera above his head whilst swimming was hilarious, even after a number of warnings that it will break. I dont know how he did it, but the camera survived.
Squeezing through tight passageways, slipping every now and again, but that was the fun of it. The caves themselves were jaw dropping, the glistening of the rocks took you back but you found yourself cursing yourself when you slipped on one of the b*****s! We climbed to the top of the cave, where the Mayans lived and performed ritual ceremonies and sacrificed their men.
Took a few snaps of Tom, d*** and Harry which was a nice little quirk our Geordie guide added I thought (I know, a geordie guide, strange huh!)
Spent most of my time in Belize on a beautiful island called Caye Caulker. A 45 minute boat ride from the mainland, and as you can see from the picture above, the waters were as clear as day. With it being in the carribean sea, everything about it was carribean, rum, reggae music and the chilled out attitude represented by the local saying, 'Hey man, go slow!'
On my second day I went on a snorkoling trip with a few friends. Apart from the fact the boat broke down for an hour and half which was a bit worrying, it was a great day. Swimming amongst sharks, sting rays, turtles, the list goes on. Apart from the fact that I broke the screen on my digital camera whilst trying to get a snap of a shark, (yes I am a plonker) the day was amazing.
Sailing back from the reef, watching the sunset, drinking rum and dancing away to some Bob Marley topped the day off nicely. Seeing a friend of mine chcuk up over the side over the boat as we neared the port was funny moment, lightweight!
Belize was awesome, and I would def go back there but only if we can ship out all the Yanks, the ignorant t*?%s.
Now on to Mexico and Cancun, party time (as if I haven't been partying already)
