Our second stop in Rajasthan was in the city of Jodhpur, also known as the blue city.
There were standard things to do around town, the main attraction being a huge fort that towers over the city. On the one side is the newer city and the other side is the 'blue' city where, as you would expect, most of the buildings are blue!
The city was quite run down though and absolute carnage as you walked around. We spotted what looked like a really nice square with a big clock tower in the middle from a viewpoint in the fort. Only to find out when we got to the square (after about and hour of walking aimlessly around), it was a chaotic local market, heaving with people and somewhere you wouldn't want to spend more than a few minutes!
The main problem with some of the cities is the lack of little cafes, restaurants and bars on ground level so you can stop to avoid the chaos.
On the plus side we did find some decent food around town. One night we went to a highly rated Indian roof top restaurant with stunning views of the fort at night. We also found a few really good local street food places. A guy that rustled up great tomato curry and dumplings for about 40p and another street stand that made all sorts of omelettes. About 30-40p for an omelette, the guy had managed to be in the top 4 places to eat on tripadvisosr in the city and had been around since the mid 70's!
In the omelette shop we bought a young street girl some food, drink and chocolate and expected her to ask for more but she pulled out a couple of sweets she must have been saving and gave us one each to say thank you! Couldn't believe that someone so young and with absolutely nothing would do that.
The final night we realised that it was a year to the day that I started travelling and we had pitched up in the mushroom house in Montenegro! So at that we had a few roof top beers before getting ready for the next city... The desert town of Pushkar....
