So after yet another long bus ride, we arrived in Floripa having had very little sleep. We took a bus to our hostel, dumped our bags and had a little nap by the lake. We checked into our hostel, showered and went to the beach; seeing as we weren't allowed to put our air con on until 8pm. All we really wanted to do was sleep but our room was unbearably hot, even the walls were hot. Tilly and Chris you're reading this; it was similar to hells waiting room in Milan.
Anyway the beaches in Floripa are beautiful: long sandy beaches and crystal clear water. Its great for people watching as there are many varieties of Brazilians ranging from attractive young people in thongs to huge ladies in thongs.
The next day we walked along the lake and sunbathed and read. We also went paddle boarding, which is like canoeing but you stand up. It was pretty easy and relaxing as the lake was so calm. However, not everyone found it to be this way; one Israeli barely got 2m before he fell off. After at least 50 tries, he gave up. Hilarious to watch!
For our 3rd day in Floripa, we went to one of the other beaches on the island (Mole beach). We had a nice long sit, read, swam and napped. Its a hard life sometimes. Unfortunately during our long sit ( in the shade) ben got burnt AGAIN. So the next day, we had an inside day and went to the cinema to see Hercules, which is an awful film by the way. That night we chilled in the hostel with a caprhina. Again, its a hard life sometimes.
For our last day in Floripa, we decided to be adventurous and rent a car to explore some of the more secluded beaches. Ben was brave and drove first. Poor guy, first time he ever drives on the right, we get lost and end up on a huge motorway. He handled it well and we found our first secluded beach. We had a sit and a paddle and then it was Sarah's turn. She kept reaching with her left hand for the gear stick and nearly hit a dog but we made it to the furthest beach south and swam in the ocean. Floripa really is a beautiful island.
That night Sarah cooked a delicious meal of Smash and meat and gravy. We were so hungry and then Sarah dropped it all on the floor. Call us gross, but we did as travelers do: scraped it up and enjoyed it. Definitely one of the low points of our trip.
Next stop Sao Paulo.
