Bariloche is a fairly busy town just inside the Argentinachile boarder, we took a 9 hour bus ride to get there from pucon, we look the long way apparently!
When we got to our hostel we unpacked and met a very forward elderly German lady who really didn't mind taking her clothes off in front of anyone especially Ben who was subjected to this on numerous occasions without warning good times.
The next day we went out trying to find the blue market to exchange our money from dollars to Argentine peso's, we waited to be approached by a cambio man. It took a while and Sarah just kept looking for dodgy looking people, after a while we noticed a man with a bum bag. It had to be him! We casually walked up to him, Ben gave him a wink and he ushered us into the back of a shop. The thrill was so intense Sarah nearly fainted, but we managed it and got 1.5 times the official rate! Yes we were rich! After that we chilled at the hostel and got chatting to a British couple; Matt and Lucy , who we ended up spending most of our time and New Year with.
The next day, we got up early to do a hike in a nearby town called Catedral, it was 24km so we got up super early, but the bus didn't come until 9:30- lazy Argentinians. The hike started easy but my god it got harder. The views at the top were worth it though- amazing mountains and lakes. A tad windy though as Ben would say.
We needed the next day to recover so we did a bit of shopping and lots of sleeping to prepare for new years eve. New years eve involved a lot of drinking and attempting to speak Spanish. Ben was convinced that he was fluent, however I'm pretty sure he was speaking Spanglish! The Argentinians made us drink fernet which is a weird black liquor that tastes awful!
The next day was rough. That's all you need to know.
