Turku, Finland May 28, 2013 Chapel of the Holy Cross. Deceptively simple spaces with a very mysterious handling of natural light.
Turku, Finland May 28, 2013 My cabin on the ferry from Turku to Stockholm. Not much smaller than most of my hotel rooms. It was an overnight trip, and I needed some sleep, so I didn't see much of the ship. What I did see was like a floating casino and duty free shop in one. As we disembarked, a group of tourists from one of the tour busses was hauling 6 cases of cheap beer on a dolly, and dumped the whole thing over. Cans of beer went everywhere.
Seinajoki, Finland May 27, 2013 Seinajoki - the administrative and cultural center planned and executed by Alvar Aalto.
Pori, Finland May 27, 2013 The bus to Noormarku and Villa Mairea. Overall, a crazy, difficult, and stressful day. Almost nothing went the way it was supposed to, but it was all worth it in the end. At least I had to tell myself that, otherwise I probably would have booked a flight home that night.
Jyväskylä, Finland May 26, 2013 Alvar Aalto's swimming hall at Jyvaskyla University. A woman on her way in for her saturday sauna thought I looked lost and let me in. It turned out she thought I really wanted to swim, but it gave me a chance to peak inside. It looked like a good time. If I had more time, and a swim suit, I might have come back.
