So we got up early as we'd booked a walking tour of Rome on our first full day. This was probably not the best idea as I got to start the walking tour still drunk from the night before.
Our walking tour guide in Paris mentioned that she'd done the walking tour and had loved it so we took her word and had signed up for it as well. So far she had not steered us wrong. Was thing going to be her first folly?
The short answer; no.
In the five hour tour we saw the Sistine Chapel (including both the roof and Judgment Day), the Pantheon, the Vatican, the Tribute Fountain, the Pieta and we also did a classical pilgrimage walk. Our tour guide for the walking tour was funny, informative and an all around great guide. He had answers to every question and knew so much about the history of everything there was that it was mind-boggling.
A long day had passed and on the way home after getting what is widely accepted as the best gelati and Panini in Rome I saw the perfect gifts for most people back home. I also found something fantastic for myself; a massive gladiatorial helmet. The only problem is that the gifts and helmet are exceedingly heavy. I'm still unsure if I'll be allowed to get them back into the country.
This brings us to the end of my first full day in Rome. Tomorrow: Florence!
Fun Fact: While nuns are accepted as living a life of poverty, it seems that they have an endless lust for good gelati. There was an entire gaggle of them all suited up and hoeing into the biggest gelatis you've ever seen. There's nothing quite as funny as a whole group of nuns all penguined up and looking so happy with themselves.
