After arriving by night train in Jakarta (a big, polluted moloch of a city with some 10000 inhabitants) we didn't plan or expect much... but the old dutch-colonial Café Batavia (which served me my first martini in 6 weeks!) was definitely a highlight, simply beautiful with teak floors, hundreds of old black and white photographs, jazz from the speakers - and of course prices to match! More transport... After a two- night- stop in Pemuteran (a rather boring beach town aimed at high-budget older tourists, not really worth mentioning except for some good snorkeling) we continued our odyssee - westwards, java-bound! Our biggest risk during all of our adventures so far... Morten's 1,80 euro haircut! I'd love to say that this friendly Javanese knew what he was doing, byt no such luck! In order to do some damage control, I had to take Morten to Salon Sonja (meaning I had to try and re-cut his hair with my nail scissors poolside). I am actually quite proud of the result and considering to open my own salon here in Indonesia - I obviously am skilled enough here ;)
