How cool is that to go surfing just before heading off to work!!!! I have been thinking about doing just that but may skip it for a bit more exploring..
Very important tips for future Lima visitors would be do not drive, do not cross streets unless you really need to, if you do need to cross the street use the natives as a shield. There is no indicating and cars are a way of transport not an indication of status so it actually doesnt matter if the headlamps are missing post a recent accident. If you think PDAs are wrong, you won't like it here.
I think for the first day I have done ok. I have seen the beach and watched surfers, Parque Kennedy with it's bars, went to choca museum to see the production of chocolate. You can buy coca flavour chocolate as well. Then visited Huaca Pucllana, place of sacrifices and tombs with recently discovered Wari burial place. Place is constructed from millions of clay bricks, really impressive. This is just in the middle of the city. Later I had an enchillada pavo tocino pollo - it's with chicken - n a famouse El Enano, flushed with a juice made out of lucuma fruit which was absolutely delicious!
I managed to discover how the local metro system works. It is called Metropolitano and is not a metro actually but buses with segregated route from the rest of the traffic. It is actually pretty straight forward once you know how to recharge the metro card. I traveled that way to Lima city centre, wandered around, there tried again to sort out a local pay as you go. Got the SIM card but no luck with recharging, so off to find another phone shop to charge it. I finally managed to sort it out in the evening but to be honest I got so relaxed it actually dropped down from my list of important things to do. I think I will be ok!
Oh, and have I mentioned English is of no use here. My Spanish is improving as there is no other choice!
I highly underestimatted the strenght of the sun here so, yes I have got a tan already!
Ok, need to finish off my mate de coca and head off for the last bit of Lima exploration before catching an overnight cama bus to Cusco where I will meet Julianne.
