As planned during the van trip back from the Inka Trail to Machu Picchu - Julianne and me have been laughing uncontrollably, for no reason really, maybe lack of oxygen as we have been climbing up again in the altitude and decided this energy can't be wasted :).) - we got out with Sabino, the guide and his friends to a Peruvian disco. Not some kind of turistic hole but a proper local place. It was Tuesday. Great fun :). We got to our beds by 4:30am.
Dancing in the South America - tick, tick, tick!!!
Somehow I can't seem to enjoy morning lay ins here. I got up after 4 hours of sleep and had breakfast on the balcony. I am still drinking coca tea in the mornings but I am quite well aclimatised now and not really sure if it helps me with the altitude or not.
Today was going to be a chilled out day with planned: picking up the our laundry (best thing ever), dropping off the duffle bags to Alpaca Expeditions, clarifying our next point of the journey to Puno and Lake Titicaca (Lago Titicaca) and making some reservations, visiting the Inka Museum, buying last souvenirs at the Artisan's Market and generally having more of the tasty Peruvian food.
We really enjoyed the Inka Museum as now after visitng Machu Picchu and gaining all that knowledge from Sabino we could add a bit more detail to what we knew already. Tools, ceramics, offerings minatures and above all textiles - all well worth a visit!
Hungry at 9 out of 10 we poped into a local family restaurant. Julliane had chicharros (fried pork) with corn, I had fried chicken with rice and potatoe, the starter was a plain, watery chicken soup called here caldo de gallina - just like the Polish one. Now we were ready to face the shopping at the market.
You have to haggle at the shops and stalls here. We managed to stick to the plan and only get what we wanted. After all the bagpacks are getting rather heavy... Most popular buys are baby Alpaca wooly sweaters, socks, hats, Peruvian colourful blankets and scarfs, leatherwork...
Then it was stopping at a very European cafe where Julianne opted for a chocolate with chocolate with chocolate cake and I indulged in fruit, fruit, fruit. All flushed with juices jugos: papaya and mine had mixture of fruit with celery and rosemary in it. If you love juices Peru is a place to come. I have never seen such a selection!
Back to the hostel..
Another late night... but at least transport to Puno and the tour at the Lake Titicaca is sorted. Early 6am start tomorrow. Again.
