Up early, breakfast - free cereal and my banana - then out at 0800 for a walk, suncream definitely on! It is very humid and very windy. I walk for miles along the coast, finishing up on the beach about 200 yards from Pigeon Island, which looked tailor made for a Famous Five style adventure! The beautiful views improved as the sun grew stronger and the misty clouds departed. Back via a shopping centre, bought some sandals (decent, $45 in a sale) and then to hostel after booking my next Greyhound trip, another half day affair this time overnight, leaving tomorrow at 1810 and arriving at Hervery Bay at 0650 on Friday morning.
After a stop for lunch, I embark on a speculative trip out the other way to this mornings walk, to Shute Harbour, 10km out of the town. That, it turns out, is all it is - a harbour for cruises to depart from and general folk to store their boats. So, after a walk, some photography and an ice-cream, I got the first bus back. Which involved waiting for 45 minutes! Bizarrely the ticket, a $3.10 return, was only valid for 2 hours, after that you'd have to pay again.
Once back in the town, buy some razors and some sea-sickness tablets for tomorrow and relax on the balcony of the hostel room, listening to some Bob Dylan on Darren's computer. Then we kick a bit of AFL ball in the room, it's the Grand Final on saturday, scheduled at lunch, apparently, so that drink can be consumed all evening and all night afterwards. Hunger draws in, so a visit to Neptune's, and a John Dory (crumbed) and chips for tea. Acceptable. Asleep after watching Spiders Part 3, waking only at 0330 to hear a new dorm member, an Aussie, decided to streak the next day. Back to sleep.
