I'm going to start this blog in sections today. Matt and I got up nice and early and we are waiting in a queue to go up the Eiffel tower. We are first in line, we got here about 8am thinking it opened at 9am. For all future travellers, it's 9.30am. It's now 8.45am so we are halfway there.
Now it's 9.15pm. We were first up the Eiffel for the breathtaking view of all Paris. As we left the tower about 45 mins or so after, the queue snaked around the base of the tower making it a worthwhile early morning. Then we headed over to the champs élysées to see the l'arc de triomphe and to browse through the shops. We enjoyed the best macaroons Paris had to offer at Laudree and they were VERY good!
From there we wandered back to the hotel via a slightly long detour and lunch followed by a nap! Feeling lazy after our early morning, we decided that dinner and bed would be best so we found a local restaurant where Matt enjoyed escargot... For those unfamiliar - that's snails! The trick of it wasn't consuming the snails, it was extricating the little SOBs from the shells with the tongs and tiny forks whilst four very amused local French people eagerly stared at you. We succeeded though and the friendly old frenchies smiled broadly. Of course after that they stared again as our steak tartare arrived (raw minced meat with seasoning) but the joke was on them as this is a dish we've eaten before and a personal favourite. With happy, full tummies it's time for bed and a bit more sleep as we attempt a later start in the morning.
