Before I begin updating again, I must make an apology. Apparently I made some spelling typos in my last post that my mother was so kind (and quick) to point out to me. Now, I know that being in college means that I should know how to spell by now, but I would also like to point out that I was jet-lagged and using a foregin keyboard. So I beg your forgiveness and hope you will keep reading. That said and done, read on about the adventure we had last night after we left the internet cafe where I updated last...
When we left the cafe, it was raining like crazy. Sheets of water dumping from the sky. The umbrella that I had bought not 2 hours before broke, so I had to trash that and curse both the stand I bought it from and myself for thinking a cheap umbrella would do the trick. Lesson well learned. We didnt really notice on the way, but we had walked quite far and it seems 3x longer in a)the rain and b) the dark. Plus, we had to cross through a near-empty and rather sketchy Hyde Park. By the time we got back to the hotel, I was competely soaked. Everything was wet, even my underpants. It was awful. And so cold! But I hopped in a hot shower and all was well with the world again.
Meg and I went to bed rather early as we were very tired and slept quite well. The beds were comfortable and they had duvets (I told you mom), which of course is my favourite way to sleep. I tend to mummify myself in regular sheets. We slept in until almost 10 am and then cleaned up our room and repacked what we had taken out. Check out was at noon, so we headed out at a little past 11 to get breakfast before leaving. We stopped at the front desk to ask about good, inexpensive places to eat and found that breakfast was actually included for us! It sounded too good to be true. Well, it turns out it was. Breakfast ended at 11 and we walked in at 11:15. But they felt bad for us, so we sat at the bar and they sneaked us coffee and pastries, which was great because we aren't exactly used to eating a huge English breakfast. After eating, we got our bags and took a cab up to our hostel. We thought about taking the tube, but we would have to transfer twice to get here and having all our heavy bags on the tube is a horrible hassle, one we did not want to reapeat. So we decided that the cab fare was worth not having to deal with our bags. And it was actually a great way to see more of London.
Our hostel is rather nice. We have decent beds and have already made some friends! A girl from California and a guy from Mexico. At the moment we are sitting the hostel kitchen using the (free!!!) wi-fi. Or at least I will be until my battery runs out, as I still need to buy an adapter. We are meeting up with Matt at six for some dinner and tomorrow we meet our family!
p.s. I will post pictures when I get to my house. my camera cords are packed away right now, but I promise there will be LOTS of pictures.
