Our SE Asia Tour 2013
Despite having arranged wake up calls for both rooms, only Rosie managed to get 2 calls - presumbably the 2nd call was for me - she did inform them that they had already called her and that they should call the other lady, but I guess they had filled their quota of 2 calls so I didn't get one (just as well I had set my phone alarm).
We set out at 5:45 am with our park guide for the 20 minute drive to Sariska National Park - a former hunting reserve of the royal family of Alwar. It was designated a Wildlife Sanctuary in 1958. There was a bit of scandal in 2005 when it was discovered that all the tigers in the reserve had disappeared - apparently the work of poachers. The park is home to Rhesus monkeys, wild boar, Sambar, Langur, Leopards, Hyena and Tigers (which have been reintroduced) as well as a lot of India's National bird the Peacock.
We spent a reasonably pleasant (as it was nice and cool) couple of hours driving around the park tracks in search of the elusive tigers. Saw plenty of other animals but only tiger pug marks on the tracks.
Back to the hotel for a late breakfast at 10:00 and set off for the return journey back to Delhi which took around 5 hours. Checked in at the hotel Florence (mix up with the rooms again - but soon sorted out) and then drove round for a quick orientation tour to prepare us for tomorrow.
Dinner at the hotel as we were quite tired from our early start. Met 3 other people in the dining room who were setting out on a Peregrine tour tomorrow. We promised not to give them any information about the tour - good or bad - unless they specifically asked.
