Been a while since I updated this so thought I would fill you in...
I am still in sunny perth - it is extremely sunny/hot/lush! Ive been here about 3.5 months now and I love it here and would definately like to move and live here perm. one day :)!! I'll goto uni and sort that all out!
So Louise has been and gone - we had a blast. Drank too much, ate too much - the usual :) We visited the Fremantle Prison which only shut down around 10 years ago i think i twas. Pretty horrific to be honest and very brutal. I would definately not ever survive prison! We got to see the rooms the stayed in which were tiny, you would not be able to lie out straight in them - not even me and i am a bit of a smurf size! Then we got to see where the prisoners got hung - that was awful and creepy! We got shown all the yards - they stuck smashed bottles of glass to the top of the walls to stop prisoners climbing over it! It was a really good day to see it all and I am glad I went to see it, but it was a bit sad - some of them were so young! We just did the daytime tour but you can also do the nighttime tour (think id be too scared haha) and you can do the tunnel tour which is underground and your in mini boats and have to paddle through it looks good but I am running out of time and money now! That'll be for trip number 2.
We also went swimming with wild dolphins in Rockingham - which isn't far from Perth. It was quite cheap (about $100 or something) and there was about 40 of us on the boat. We then got taken out - not too far and followed the dolphins and once we spotted them groups of us were put into the sea and so we could swim with them. This was ace, at one point there was a dolphin with her baby was feeding off two huge sting rays right underneath me - amazing to see and one I won't ever forget. The only bad thig about this day was that it was cloudy and a little cold (in the low 20's - cold for us!) but overall a really good day...thank god we didnt do this tour 3 days later as there was a shark attack on the guide that we had - she survived but read it was pretty brutal and she was in intensive care for over a month.
We also hired out a car for 5 days and went up the west coast to Monkey Mia/Shark Bay. This was brilliant! We stopped off at The Pinnacles first, this was amazing to see and a little creepy - they are just big rock formations coming out the ground in different shapes - one looked like a giant penis haha! The only bad thing about this place was the flies. Oh my god. So many flies - apparently fly season - I may have been being gullable but I did get told WA have a fly season. And that was it! After this we headed for Geraldton for the night. We planned to stay in a hostel but by the time we had ate our chinese it was all a bit late and so we camped out in the car for the night. It was an experience haha!! Not much sleep was had and we set off at 5.30am the next day!
We were going to go to Kalbarri national park but the road was no good for our car as it was a hired one we didn't want to do any damage - so if you get the chance do this but with a 4WD! A tad peeved I didn't get to go, but I will be coming back at some point and will so it then!! We then got back on the road and were headed for Monkey Mia.
We eventually got there after seeing thousands of dead kangaroos and goats on the road and nearly runnig out of petrol we made it!! First stop was Denham, little town near Monkey Mia - get your groceries here and theres some nice places to eat and look out onto the amazing seaview!! We went to the bottle shop and this is where lou had her first experience with Goon (aussie word for cheap wine!) and when we came out the show there was a huge emu just wondering around with her family!! We then went to Shell beach - this was beautfiul! A small beach covered in tiny white shells s- lovely, the shells are protected though and we werent allowed to take any. The sea was gorgeous - crystal clear and warm. We stayed here for a bit and then went to Monkey Mia.
Monkey Mia was awesome! I loved it and want to live there its beautiful!! We checked in no problem and upgraded ourself to a private room instead of a dorm - we are posh like that ;-)! We dumped our stuff and went to the beach (2 secs from where our room was) and went into the sea - crystal clear, clam and warm! Within seconds there was about 3 dolphins swimming around right infront of us splashing about a playing! Was amazing and free!! This went on all day, the dolphins just come in so close to the shore, and play around the people - they have been doing this for years and so used to the people. We just lay on the beach all day topping up our tans. At night we had some goon on the balcony, then went downstairs for dinner and a few drinks! The bar shut at 10pm though - it was a very relaxed place, however we were both shattered from the driving and lack of sleep we went to bed early!
We woke up the next day at 7am to go down and watch the dolphin feeding, the dolphin people (haha not sure what to call them?) pick randoms who are watching and get to feed the dolphins! This was a really good morning and as the dolphins were just coming straight up and swimming past us - so close we could have touched them. I wasnt feeling too great (later on I found out I had a chest infection!) so by about 11am I was back in bed and that was me for the rest of the day sadly - very sick/horrible cough and high temperature! Just my luck!!
The next day we set off for home, we were going to stay an extra night but I felt so crap and didn't want the long drive back on the day the car had to be back by!
We also took Louise to see some wild kangaroos/dingoes and she got to hold a Koala bear and get her pic taken!! They were so cute and there were a few baby ones which i lurrved!!
The 3 weeks she was here passed so quickly and before we knew it we were taking her home - hungover, skint, tanned and tired! haha. Good 3 weeks and so glad you came out :-)!!
I had a really good birthday - thanks to everyone who sent cards/pressies and birthday wishes!! My birthday was spent going whale watching from Fremantle which was bloody amazing!! I couldnt believe how huge and how close they were to the boat we were on - amazing to see and I definately recomend it! At night I went out for a meal with the family which was really nice and this of course was followed by some alcoholic drinks. I was meant to go out at the weekend for my birthday but I couldnt be bothered - think I had been out waaay to much! So on the Friday, David (craigs bumchum) invited us round for tea - he cooks a very good spaghetti bols and bruchetta - most impressed and then Jenny joined us later on for lots of drinks. Felt a tad rough the next day but not too bad!
The rest of my time here I have either spent it on the beach (usually Cottesloe) or by Craigs pool!! I will miss this lifestyle. If I'm not at these places I'm usually out with my new friend Jenny. She's my aunts friends daughter and we get on really well which is good as I now live with them!
We had the highland games here a couple of weekends ago which was a really good morning trip!! I had a sausage roll served by a Glaswegian - he had been here 8 yrs - I couldnt understand him one tiny bit! :) and most importantly my cousin Sam was playing his bagpipes in the band he was in over here - he was so good and looked very grown up in his kilt!! Very proud so we were :) I was also in charge of taking photographs for the band so hopefully they all come out good!! I do miss my photography. That day was then followed by a day with craig at his pool drinking vodka and than a thai takeaway at night which was reaaaallly good. Sadly I cannot handle my alcohol and the night came to an early end when i passed out around 9.30pm :D!
My aunt/uncle/cousins have now all moved on to South Africa/Mossel Bay - seem to be really enjoying it and so I am now living with Jenny and her parents!! Having a really nice time there, they also have a pool which is very handy and an amazing view of the city/golf course from their balcony - I love it!!
Next week (8th dec) I fly to Melbourne where I am meeting up with Jill. We have booked to do a 3 day tour of the Great Ocean Road - really looking forward to doing this! We are also going to go on the neighbours tour - soooo excited to do this, and I'm not too sure what else! We are staying at the Ritz Backpackers hostel, the bar below it - elephtant and wheelbarrow is where carl kennedy (the guy from neighbours not sure what his real name is!) plays with his band - so stalking and autography collecting here I come! Apart from those days, I am just intending to see a bit of Melbourne as I have not been for that and praying that it's nice weather - won't hold my breath though seems to piss it down all the time over there! After that im off to sydney to meet up with the girls I went travelling with up the East coast - well most of them and I'll be there for Christmas day - really hope its a nice day as I am looking forward to spending it on the beach - for a change - but I h ave never done that on Christmas before I'm usually wrapped up and inside! I fly back to Perth on the 26th for 2 days before flying off to Thailand.
Not looking forward to leaving Aussie land and my friends at all but hopefully I will be back sooner rather than later :-)!!!
