Today we took a trip to Nederburg Primary school. West Chester has been visiting this school since we first came to South Africa in 2001. We started off by having coffee and pastries with some of the faculty members and talking to them about the school and surrounding community. After our visit to Robben Island, the weather started to clear up. This meant that we could take a ride to the top of Table Mountain. Named one of the 7 Natural Wonders if the World, what is most striking about Table Mountain is that it can be seen from almost anywhere in Cape Town. After a 15 minute cable car ride up to the top, we were able to enjoy an above-the-clouds view of the city and surrounding ocean.

Waking up today, weather was a bit damp. Our group walked together through the misty rain toward the waterfront down the street from our hotel. The weather seemed incredibly fitting for where we were headed: Robben Island. Used as a leaper colony and then as a prison, Robben Island only shut its gates as a government establishment in 1991. We've arrived! After a long, long, loooooooooooong trip down, we finally got to Cape Town. Our first stop was supposed to be Table Mountain but because of the weather, we decided to reschedule that to tomorrow. Instead, we went to District 6. District 6 is an area in Cape Town that was greatly affected by Apartheid. Prior to Apartheid, it was an incredibly diverse community. All packed up and ready to go... With my bag just under the 50 lb weight limit, I am on the bus and officially on my way to South Africa! The next twenty hours or so will be spent riding on a bus, riding on a plane or waiting in a customs line so there is still a ways to go before I am actually "there." We did get a tentative itinerary so I know that our first day or two will be spent at Table Mountain and exploring Cape Town. I'll post more pictures as I take ...
