Said our goodbye to Trump and jumped in a coach to New York. Travelled for 6 hours, just as New York City came into view a car decided to collide our coach on the highway! Had a friendly visit from the police, and our journey was delayed for an hour. Luckily nobody was hurt except for Ashley's backpack, which had a near miss death experience as it was next to the part where the coach was hit.
Coming out of the bus terminal we were immediately into the heart of New York City - TIMES SQUARE! We were dumbfounded and illuminated by the super high skyscrapers, hundreds of rushing people swarming on the colourful street, bright lights and giant flashing advertisements and billboards. I learned that America's McDonald have free refill fizzy drinks. We were lucky to have a room to ourselves (separate beds though… a lady can always hope).
On ur 1st proper day, we went up at the top of the Empire State building; the view is absolutely breath taking although I was caution going close to the edge of 86thfloors! Visited couple of Trump's towers/buildings to Ashley's much indulge. Visited the famous Central Park where I learned that my legs are allergy to grass and a lot of old people like to roll skate! This urban park is surrounded by one of the world busiest city, but when we were in the park we were relaxed.
The following day, we went over New Jersey State and visited Carlo's original bakery shop from Cake Boss Programme that I love watching on TV. Had a cheeky red velvet cupcake and it didn't take a wild guess what Ashley chose… vanilla slice! We went and paid our respect at Ground Zero, caught a State Ferry that have a good State of Liberty view, cross the Brooklyn Bridge and visited Chinatown. We had a meal with two fellow Deaf Americans (Isabella and Amanda) who we met at WFD Congress few years ago in a recommended Chinese Restaurant - Joe's Shanghai. On our 3rd day was the 4th of July- American Independence Day! Isabella took us to one of New York's hidden gems, the High Line- an elevated linear park created on an elevated section of a disused New York Central Railroad. After the stroll, we visited St Patrick Cathedral, Rockefeller Centre that is pretty just a big building built by one of the 3 pioneers in New York City and the famous Grand Central Station, which is smaller and quieter than I thought! After homemade dinner, we went to the Eastern side river and grabbed a good view of the City. Countdown, at 21:25hrs more than 60,000 fireworks were lit into magical and awe-inspiring light display that lasted for 25 minutes! That same evening we caught an overnight coach to our next destination… NIAGARA FALLS! New York City - you will be missed.
