Now onto our second destination, Washington DC! Where shall we start? We stayed with 4 American Deaf ladies (Ashley was very excited about this). They live very close to the city.
On our 1st day, Two of the lovely Deaf ladies took us to see the Capitol and we went inside to learn more about how the US government works (I am not sure if Hannah understood anything...) In the afternoon, we had a tour around Gallaudet University, the world only university for the Deaf and HOH. It was surreal! We are jealous that there isn't one in Europe for us, Europeans!
On our second day, I (Hannah) did something that we think not many people did at the capital of America- is it abseiling the Capitol? Had tea with Trump? Drove off with police car? No, Hannah puked next to the monument that represented freedom. Poor Ashley had to practically carry Hannah back to where we stayed and Hannah slept through the afternoon. So much for second day of adventure(!)
On third day we were able to walk around to see the White House, Abraham Lincoln Memorial and Jefferson Memorial. The weather was very hot and humidity - highest would reach around 35 degrees.
After asking each other how can we describe Washington DC in one sentence, for some reason We were unable to describe Washington DC concisely... The buildings are beautiful, it is obvious they do take great pride in their architecture and the style are very American. Everything represented power. However we couldn't shake off this feeling of sympathy for many people who live the 'outskirts' part of Washington DC. It is very noticeable that many lives in poverty, poor health and there are some power inequality. We are grateful that we have good health care system back in UK.
Now, we are on our way to our third destination, the city of Big Apple, the city that never sleeps, also known as New York City! See you at our next blog.
