The sun contined to shine without a cloud in the sky as we walked over to the cemetry in hunt of Evitas grave on our first real day in BA. We enjoyed wandering around and taking in the sites on the way, more catching up on the 4 months since we all last saw one another. When we got to the cemetry we wandered with no purpose but then mananged to tag along to an american couple who had a guide and were blatantly heading for Evitas grave. We were going to find it! Shez got his picture with the plaque then off we headed to our next stop El Ateneo bookstore. It is situated in Barrio Norte, the area we were staying along Santa Fe, a very busy road and was orignally opened as a theatre, hence its attraction. We enjoyed wandering around the books taking in the coolness of the place as well as treating ourselves to some nachos before heading back to chill house. Ash and I had bought some red wine and so we all chilled for a few hours on the roof terrace in the glorious sunshine, listening to some music and again catching up whilst enjoying the red wine.
That evening we decided to go to La Cabrera in Palermo to celebrate Ashs belated birthday. So many people had recommended the place to us and said how amazing their steaks were and we were to learn they certainly werent lying!! After wandering over around 7.30pm we were told to come back in an hour when the place opened. In the meantime we grabbed a drink and wandered around the busy square amongst the market stalls and many outdoor eating / drinking areas. Palermo was a great little place! After consideration we decided to head back over to La Cabrera in case people started queuing. Good job we did as a few people had started collecting and we soon realised there was a blooimin waiting list;. As we put our name down 11th on the list we explained we were here half an hour earlier and so should be at the top! After some persuading the lady agreed until 'Justin' an asian guy too tried to push in on our story and then the woman refused us both. Shez and I were fuming as it looked like we had a loooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnng time to wait to get our steak.
The next 20 minutes were very tense as lots of people gathered on the pavement outside waiting to see if they were to get a table or not. We soon learnt 'Justtin' was bloomin 2nd in the queue asnyway so he never needed to complain about us!! Again Shez and I were both laughing and fuming at this guys cheek!! It was all Ok though after 30 minutes my name was called!!! All 3 of us walked into the restaurant beaming like a cheshire cat excited about our meal ahead. It took much deliberation about which cut to have but we finally went for a sirloin and a piece of kobi rinsed down with a bottle of red wine. We were in Argentina after all! Our waiter was wonderful all evening and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal, what a way to celeb rate Ashs birthday! We all agreed this was definately the best steak we had ever had. The evening was topped off with a birthday sparkler in a pudding to celebrate Ashs birthday as I had managed to sneakily speak to out waiter when going to to the toilet; As we headed back to our hostel we were all very happy with our first day in BA. More good times ahead please!
