hello all Ashlee here,
i apologise for how long ago we last posted a message but we have been very busy.
So where to start .........
After our new years hangovers had worn off we managed to fit in a few more adventures in Sydney before we departed, we went on a costal walk between Bondi and Coogie beaches, we went on a tour of the Blue Mountains, and most excitingly (especially for Thomas) we had an all you can eat buffet lunch in the Sydney tower in a revolving restaurant 250 metres above the ground which had spectacular views of the city.
It was then time for the second part of our australian adventure to begin, we left sydney and picked up our trusty campervan (now known as Winni the Winnibeago) and headed south for Melbourne. On the way we went on a hunt for caves which must have been hiding and then had our first night of free camping in the middle of nowhere just outside of Canberra.
Canberra treated us all well, me Nathan and Gemma enjoyed Capital hill, new and Old parliament buildings a walk along the river and had fun in a sculpture garden. Tom tried to go to a sports museum but was unsuccessfull so ended up in a science museum instead, that night we parked up for the night in a truck stop in a town called Tarcutta, which had a nice pub and a play ground to amuse us. We then headed off and went in the direction of melbourne, we stopped off in Albury and tested our wits against mind puzzelling games and got our first taste of luxury in a campsite in with a Koala where we met a couple who are travelling for 4 years???!!!! around Australia.
The next day we arrived in Melbourne and spent our time there parked in and around St Kilda beach, we all feel in love with the place and ended up staying there for 4days. Our first day we spent at the beach watching the kite surfers, the second day we headed into to the city and Gemma and Nathan explored the city on foot while me a Tom hoped on board the amazing free city circle line tram. That night me Nathan and Gemma went to see Hotel for dogs at the moolight cinema while Tom headed to the cricket. However when we arrived at the botanical gardens (which is the beautiful outdoor setting for the film) we discovered that it was a bring your dog along night which was interesting with my massive allergy to pet hair as we were surrounded by hundreds of our canine friends. The next day we explored Melbourne as a group and visited the Koorie centre and learnt about Aboriginal culture and boiled alive in 37 degree heat, that night me Gemma and Nathan went to the Neighbours night and met Steve the vet, Elle Robinson, Connor and some other characters past and present that I cant quite remember the names of and did very badly in the pub quiz. We then met Tom and Jukes for a few drinks in the city.
The next day we said goodbye to Melbourne and spent the day at Phillip Island and missed the legendary penguin perade but on the way to the very unimpressive blow hole saw a baby penguin in its nest. That night we stayed in our poshiest camp site so far and enjoyed the delights of a heated swimming pool and jaquizzi while tom crashed a families game of cricket. The next day we headed off to Cann River to do a very educational bush walk, played a game of crazy golf and camped next to a couple who were bicycling around australia and saw the hugest spider on the toilet door.
We then headed up past Eden and a beautiful river mouth we stopped to bathe in and last night we spent in the Kangaroo valley which was charming and seemed to be stuck in time around the 50s, we camped next to a bridge and went swimming and rope swinging in the river before heading off to Wollongong which we are at now.
Its been long and I m under time pressure in an internet cafe so probably all in the wrong order, lol.
Speak soon,
Ashlee
