Arriving in HK well rested the first thing we did was check out how to get to HK Island. Many options were available... but after the hyper-expensive San Francisco we opted for the cheapest version, the bus. Unfortunately, the bus driver wasn't very accomodating. We'd only just gotten cash from the ATM, rather large bills, and apparently the busses require exact change and we only found out after the bus driver had driven off. Luckily we managed to change our bills on the bus with some folks who even threw in 2HK$ so we had exactly enough!
Arriving at Central station I'd forgotten from my previous trip how difficult it is communicating with the non-english speaking taxi-drivers. Especially trying to explain where you're trying to go if it's some out of the way unknown hotel, the Garden View Hotel. Eventually we were dropped off the street below the street where our hotel was which I considered close enough. I'm not sure Q agreed, something about her look while we had to hike up to the hotel with full bagage put me on to that I think. Thankfully, the hotel realised the predicament I had put my lovely girlfriend in and obliged by upgrading us to a suite upon arrival, so kind! The suite was fairly large and even had it's own kitchen. The view again was stunning, rather a good start to our stay to be honest.
The next morning we needed to find breakfast and considering it's Hong Kong there really was only one option: Dim Sum! The places we tried as we walked down into town were inconveniently closed and with holes eating away in our stomachs we had to settle for a quick Chinese sweet bun to still our murderous hunger. Once finished with our quick bite (and using internet to finally find a Dim Sum place) we left for it, snagging two fold up umbrella's along the way. The Dim Sum was, decent and not quite as good as we only just had in San Francisco, but the setting was brilliant. Carts driving around, Q walking around like a native sampling the different options and unlimited tea to quench our first.
Having finished of our 2nd breakfast we left for the Peak via the Peak tram. Considering the fact that it had been raining all day and the weather wasn't all that good we decided to forego the $30HK charge for the "best" view and just walked up Peak Galleria for the view almost as good. After that we spent some time walking around and it was fun showing Q where I used to live and go to school. When we finished our circle round my/the sights Q came up with the idea to walk down to mid-levels, something I'd never done before so not a bad idea! The walk was pretty sweet, cooler with all the cloud cover with here and there a nice view through the jungle. We finished our walk going through the botanical and zoological gardens with all sorts of monkeys and birds out for display (again a new experience for me, never realised they were there!). Considering we now had a kitchen we decided to snag some food for the "borrel" and breakfast. We tried to get a reservation at Fish & Meat but could only be seated at 20:45... hey, that gives us time to have our "borrel", right? :)
Wine and chips followed, with an attempt to catch up with our blog (considering I'm typing this about a week and a half later you can imagine how well we're doing).
At 20:30 we made our way down to Fish & Meat where we were greeted very kindly. The food was good, with one dish of watermelon and tuna being absolutely amazing, but on the whole it was a tad expensive. With all the travelling we weren't to keen on getting more drinks somewhere so we ended up going to sleep earlyish for a change.
