Last day in D.C. What to do? Go to the zoo! The Smithsonian Zoo was just 10 minutes walk up the road and I decided I would head up for the morning and see if I had time to do anything else in the afternoon. First stop, Asian animals. It was quite cold outside (glove weather if mine weren't still drying out in the bedroom) and many of the animals were hiding were it was a lot warmer. But the Red Pandas were out and about running around and climbing trees. And the big Pandas were out as well, munching away on there food. I was freezing my but off so I decided to go visit the aviary and I'm quite happy that I did. There were some visiting bird researchers there for a meet and great with a Kiwi Bird. I was hanging around outside so they asked if I wanted to join them. I have never actually seen a Kiwi Bird in my life, but they are weird little things. Apparently they can be quite ferocious in the wild but the boy that we met was gorgeous and very friendly. We all got to feed and pet him (he was especially fond of being massaged just behind his head). It was quite an experience. It took the rest of the day to wander the whole zoo as it is very spread out so I didn't end up doing anything else in the afternoon. We ended up going to a little Mediterranean place around the corner from the hotel for dinner. I had stuffed grape leaves for the first time in years (and they very very delicious!). Then an early night as it was off to Orlando and a big week ahead.
