I think its about time I attempt to get this blog updated. Last update was in Del Rio so lets go from there. We headed off from Del Rio to Terlingua. We headed out towards Marathon and then through the Big Bend National Park. The views in Big Bend were breathtaking. You don't see anything like it back home. We made a couple of stops and took plenty of photos but really, they just don't do it justice. You just have to remember to watch out for the bears and mountain lions! The drive itself wasn't too long and we eventually made it through Study Butte to Terlingua. Terlingua is a tiny little ghost town near the boarder of Mexico. A couple of months before we left, just after we had decided to go there, it was in an episode of Criminal Minds. I texted Siobhan to tell her and she was very adamant she didn't want to know what happened in it :P The town itself was barely a town. The general store and the Starlight Theatre restaurant were the only real businesses in the "main town". There was a little more in the way of houses and probably civilisation further out but "Terlingua Ghost Town" was really that when we arrived. It did pick up a lot when we headed to the Starlight Theatre for dinner. Seems like its the place to be on a Saturday night. The place was full and noisy and there was even a band. Though ti was not as good as the one we saw in Gruene. We headed home in the pitch black, wishing we had the bright idea of grabbing the torch before we left. It is black as black out there at night. Made going to the shower and toilet (both separate from the main living area where we stayed) a little unnerving. But that being said, the place we were staying was very beautiful. But a little creepy when the wind started to pick up and everything outside my window was making noise. However when I went out at 2am it was dead calm and I managed enough courage to stay out for a bit and have a look at the stars. You definitely don't get a starry sky like that in civilization. It was amazing. An early start to the next day and off to Alamagodo it was.
