Chiang Mai
22/11- Checked out of my hostel and had a dodgy stomach this morning! Thank god it hasn't lasted all day! Flown to Chiang Mai today and straight away met loads of girls! Alice first sleeping above me and Emma from Sweden asked me to go on a trek with her! The hostel is taking us all to a lady boy cabaret show! Should be fun! .. Cabaret show was good and funny! Ended up going to a bar to play beer pong and pool.
23/11 - Went on a good and random trek with Emma today. It included visiting an orchid farm, riding elephants (we didn't do this and just chilled and chatted instead), bamboo rafting and going for a swim in a waterfall. Coming back from the waterfall was so funny! The car/tuk tuk type of vehicle got stuck in the mud. We tried to push it but in the end we were pulled out by another car!
When we got back we went for dinner and then went to some bars for a messy night out with people from the hostel!
24/11- Chill and recovery day! Ended up laying in bed all day chilling and reading my book. I got persuaded to go to the lady boy show again at night and then went to a bar to watch the football.
25/11 - Checked out of hostel and went for brunch with a Danish guy. Then just chilled in the hostel with some others before I go to meet the Micallefs! …. So I meet up with the Micallefs and we end up driving to loads of hotels. In each Miles and Anton ask the price and then go and have a look at the rooms. We ended up walking out of the first 3 before settling in probably the second to worst one.
Once settled and washed we went for dinner in a well expensive restaurant (which Anton said was cheap!!) These boys are going to cost me loads haha … We walked back through the night market buying various bits and watched Anton have his feet eaten by fish.
26/11 - Miles and Anton finally go to do there first trip in Thailand after 2 and a half weeks of them sleeping in the day and drinking at night. We went to a temple first that you had o walk up 300 steps to get to it. We then went to tiger kingdom and on to a monkey show. We got back to our hotel nice and early so spent the rest of the day planning the week and booking other trips.
27/11 - Today we had a very early start and late finish as we done a day trip that included hot springs, white temple, Laos market, Burma border and a visit to the long neck tribe. We spent 8.5 hours in total in a mini bus travelling to all these places! It was definitely a man made trip for tourists. The hot springs (2 of them) looked more controlled than natural. The white temple looked nice from the outside but had no history apart from it has and is still been built by a famous thai artist. The market and border were just for shopping (everywhere sells the same products). The long neck tribe was interesting but quite sad at the same time as they wear the rings round their necks for protection against tigers (well used to). But now there are no tigers to attack them so not sure why they carry it on.
Pai -
28/11 - Today we go to Pai for a few days. Our mini bus has been cancelled and they didn't tell us so instead of going at 9am we are now scheduled to leave at 11. A 3-3.5 hour bumpy journey awaits us! ...... wow what a bumpy and twisty ride that was! You couldn't fall asleep. Was thrown all over the place in the mini bus!
When we got to Pai we spent a little time finding somewhere to stay. After that had some dinner and then spent the night playing to, drinking chang beer and chilling to some reggae.
29/11 - We booked a few more activities today which included; a waterfall, Chinese village, elephant riding and tubing. The waterfall wasn't that great. The one last sat was a lot nicer. The elephant riding hurt like mad. I can probably do the splits now The elephant was meant to chuck us in the stream and we were meant to wash it but just before all that, the elephant decided to go toilet in the stream so we told the man we didn't fancy it haha!
The tubing was relaxing. We met a couple of girls doing it too and ended up meeting later for dinner and drinks.
30/11 - Said good bye to the boys in the morning then found myself and Emma a guesthouse for the night before we head back to Chiang Mai tomorrow. Had a funny night out with Emma and some of her friends. 4 crazy koreans, a funny dutchman and a guy from Finland! Just going to chill until Monday now and then the fun begins Volunteering at the elephant rescue centre!!!
1/12 - Made my way back to Chiang Mai for the night. Watched Man united and at the same bar/restaurant were a really good reggea thai band!
