Phuket/Koh Lanta/Krabi -
Well I can see why not many travellers/backpackers like Phuket. A 5 minute taxi Journey from the airport cost me 400bht (£8) and then from my hotel to Patong (20-25mins) cost me another 800bht (£16). It took me 2 days to spend that in Chiang Mai and that included meals etc.
When I arrived in Patong I was glad that I was only staying for one night. The beach looked nice but it was just too commercial and packed. It had a bar street full of cubs, bars, go go bars and lots of lady boys. Ideal place for boys drinking holiday for 2 weeks as It had the feel of somewhere like Zante, Kos, Ayia Napa etc.
From Patong I went to Koh Lanta. Again I got ripped off in Patong with an expensive ferry trip. Koh Lanta was the ideal chill out place and the total opposite to Patong. The beach was beautiful and had hardly anyone on it! My accommodation was like a big tree house which was a bit of a shock but it created a good atmosphere for the 2 nights I was there and the staff and travellers there were really nice. Wish I had stayed one more night to have another day of chilling on the beach.
Next up was Krabi. Not a massive amount to do or see here. I could have done with booking one or two less nights here but I just booked some day trips to keep me occupied and as there is no beach (unless you get a boat to one) I chilled on the roof top bar or by the river.
My first day trip was rock climbing! Highly recommended and definitely the best trip/activity I have done. This was good fun and suitable so any level. The instructors are a laugh and push you all the way so you do not quit I loved every minute of it. We climbed next to a beautiful beach which made it even better. I ended up in a group with 3 girls from my hostel so when we got back we ended up going for dinner together and also booked a trip for the next day together.
The next trip I done was a 4 island boat trip. After a hard day rock climbing the day before it was time to do something a bit more chilled out. It was a nice day visiting different islands. As usual something had to go wrong. Our boat engine stopped working so we had to get towed to one of the islands by another boat that was part of the same company. While both boats were still tied together when people were snorkelling a huge wave came out of nowhere and made both boats crash together a few times! Luckily the driver managed to fix the boat and we were able to detach from the other boat and carry on the journey on our own.
My final trip in Krabi was a kayaking trip. The water was calm as we kayaked through what our guide described as 'The thai grand canyon'. It was so peaceful and been surrounded by huge rocks made it nice and cool. Half way round we saw some monkeys and one even jumped on to my kayak! It was a nice morning of kayaking. We then had some lunch before going to a little lagoon to have a swim and finish for the day.
Now my time in Krabi has come to an end and I will move on to Koh Samui for Christmas with the family!
