Lucky to get out of the country before flights were cancelled because of the ruddy ash cloud. Shaun and I are on our way.
The flight from Sydney to Singapore was going onto Frankfurt next so we heard alot of German yabbering. The guy sitting next to me (who was actually perfectly harmless) was a nutty professor. What distinguished his nutty professorness to me? Well:
1) he spoke with a German accent.
2) he kept staring at me (and the German girl on his other side) throughout the flight to try and provoke conversations (which I could only give in to so many times).
3) while watching a BBC drama on his setback tv he kept bursting into maniacal fits of laughter
4) he was writing a speech he was giving at a philosophy conference in Straussburg and using the setback sleeve as some type of filling cabinet.
Anywho obscurity aside it was a pleasant flight. Only other problem was that neither of us had slept and we had a 12 hr wait for our connecting flight to Phuket. Not keen on spending the night slouching on a lounge in Starbucks we discovered the amazing transit hotel (Praise the lord!) - were Shaun got really excited because we could see the runway from the window (FYI Shaun loves planes).
Refreshed and ready to continue our voyage we headed for Phuket (only a 1hr flight). Quickly changed into clothing more appropriate for the 30 degree + high humidity weather.
Checked into our hotel in Surin Beach (very nice and very cheap thanks to Shaun's Marriott gold card) and ready to head out and check what Phuket has to offer. Already went to the beach which was loverly but the water was rough no swimming was allowed. Have been hassled by many for Thai massage and to dine in their establishments.
I'll put some piccies up soon :)
