Hokay, so it has been quite some time since the last update. Let me bring you up to speed.
On our way to Vienna from Venice the topography changed dramatically in what seemed to be an instant. All of a sudden we were going through areas with so many hills which were alive with the sound of music. Seriously though, we couldn`t get over how it looked like a movie. Everyones cheerfulness also added to the movie feeling. Like the guy selling food in the train was so bubbly when he opened our cabin...aw so wonderful. And one last element to our movie scene...Ariane was hungry and about to get up for food when all of a sudden the FOOD CART ARRIVES¦ So we decided that in Austria, food comes to you.
On our first day in Vienna we found ourselves a cutie little restaurant which had some pretty delicious food at a pretty good price so in our tradition of finding something we like and sticking to it, we had dinner there every day except for the day it was closed when we went to a little place close by. Ariane had a doner box and had to point to it because she didn¨t know how to pronounce it and I had my love, falafel...
I am not sure if people just don¨t tip in Austria because we didn`t leave huge amounts and everytime we did people were like, whoa too much or whoa thank you so much for the gift.
While in Vienna we visited MAK...for free. It was this huge museum. My fav. part of it was this little section which had a futuristic theme going on. It was based on a future more sustainable and eco friendly Vienna. Some of the ideas were pretty neat. Again in that same museum, there was an expo of Korean art. It was really interesting to see. It was a welcome contrast to what we had seen in a lot of other art museums.
On our way to another museum we needed help to understand the directions given by my guide book and the lady we asked to help us went SUPER out of her way to help us. Vienna is full of friendly people¦ Once we finally found our museum we walked into a lobby which didn¨t have any straight floors. It was really awkward to walk on but we managed and thankfully the other floors were slightly more level. But it was all part of the art. Kunst Haus Wein was the name of the museum and the artist was super environemental and social justice oriented which made me super happy.
We also went to the Leopold museum which had a little more contemporary art. There was one artist..Otto who was particularly interesting. His stuff was all really dark and violent and sadistic but it was all done in bright colours. I am sure there is some kind of message to be understood in all of that but I am not that deep when it comes to art.
I liked going to the Haus der Musik. They had quite a bit of interactive things...although it wasn¨t always clear on how they should be used. We also got to learn a lot about Mozart and co. One of these composer guys didn¨t even have a piano at his home so he would have to go to friends to practice what he wrote. Crazy eh.
We also took a city bus tour which had a lot of info but when you put the volume too high the speakers would give out which kinda sucked. But the info we did hear was super interesting.
Now we are in the beautiful city of Prague. We will update soon. Before going to Berlin. Promise.
