Now all that shark action didn't do any favours for Trev's ear an upon arriving in our new budget digs at Miss Joongs. His mood worsened. By dinner time he had enough losing all patience with the whole thing. So had Jo! The following day Trev stayed in teh hotel room to rest completley (Jo needed a break really) and did the most supportive thing she could - go to the beach! Now it had got more than a little frustrating by now and even tho Jo was at the beach she was still restricted to just the beach and not the water because of her hand in bandages; so we were both a little more than surprised when we met up later that both a little more than pleased with ourselves. Trev couldn't take it anymore and went down to the Hospital on the proviso that he was not leaving until his ear was sorted. It had been 2 weeks, 2 courses of antibiotics and 3 doctors visits. So 20 mins and 6 attempts later....the ear syringe finally restored Trev to normality!! Time to celebrate with a beer or several
Just as well then that Jo had spent the day with a couple from London and 2 sisters from Ireland that she had met on the beach that day. Social secretary duties fulfilled we met up with Ben and Melle, Fiona and Lisa. We all hit it off really well and quickly made plans to spend the rest of time in Phi Phi with them all; especially since there was an upcoming beach party in a few days!
Feeling a little more energised (Trev was singing and dancin at any given moment) Trev spent the day as an honory chick while Ben spent the morning on a dive course. All this beach time was making Trev pace like Larry, so it was time do something! Ben didn't need much persuading, so it was off to another rock to climb. The girls had gotten bored of the same stretch of beach so they chartered a longtail to Bamboo island, coming back to pick up Trev and Ben when they were finished. The day turned out to be spectacular A great mornning climb although in some of the hottest weather yet, private beach loungin working on those tans ending with an amazing sunset. Perfect. Just needed to party now! Expecting a hangover Jo and I thought that we'd treat ourselvesa nd move into somewhere nice for the morning after. We had booked into the Tara Inn that morning so that all that we had to do was move our stuff over. All that promise of Hot showers air con and a TV had set us up to just move in and get ready to party. We collected keys and were shown up....past the lovely white tiled rooms and back to what we thought were more rooms of the same. Found our room number and then opened the door to our cockroach infested wood shack on stilts! We'd been conned good and proper. Our host had suddenly disappeared and new ones appeared in the form of another jungle sized roach. Jo's recations were lightening fast in the absence of any bug spray reached for a book and took out the first one beheading it neatly, before taking on his mate in the bathroom. Trev was having none of this and the 70's style bed complete with brown and maroon bedspread was not helping either! He made tracks and was back in 30 mins with a new reservation for our kinda place. The Charlies beach resort. Niiice. So we hit the beach for some late night fun. The party was already in full swing and things were busy so we moved to a bar for some bucket action. Th ladyboys were out in force tonight and were getting well territorial about the dancefloor, so the girls (and Trev) took to the tables to show em how its done! the funniest sight of the night was watching a ladyboy who was more camp boy than lady bowl up to the girls and barge them off the dancefloor so that he could show us his version of dancing. A minute later he could tell his wasn't gonna get any love and stomped off in huff! great entertainment
We spent the next day nursing hangovers and not seeing much of the beach but plenty of the room instead. It was big novelty to have carpet and watch TV. It soon wore off tho and it was time to move on again. We'd heard good things about ko Lanta and had originally planned to start things there. The rain had kept the island closed and ultra quiet but as the weather was getting better by the day and Lanta was close by we figured that Lanta might have something else to offer. So it was goodbye for now until Australia to our new friends and an excited short ferry ride to our next stop.
