AKA Down Under
Arrived in Singapore on Friday, kinda tired after the train ride. Found a hostel called the Grace Lodge, and booked in for the two nights. Ended up in wir first ever shared, mixed dorm! That was an experience! The dorm was full so spoke to plenty o people, but they were all a fair bit older than wis. No actually seen any travellers wir age yet, but might find some in Australia hopefully.
Spent the first day visiting various places recommended by the Grace lodge owner; a big market on Bugis Street, Little India, a massive shopping centre I canna mind the name of and a few places we stumbled across on the way. Spent night time going for a ride on the Singapore Flyer, which was pretty spectacular. The whole of Singapore seems to get lit up at night. Then back to the Hostel for an early night.
Yesterday was spent mainly at Sentosa Island - a peerie island right at the south end of Singapore which hosts a peerie theme park as well as other things. Got a cable car decorated with angry birds across to the island, again amazing views. Folk here are seriously obsessed with angry birds though, they have angry birds everything! Wandered round the island just seeing everything. Sat for a while on the southernmost part of continental Asia, which was cool :) Loads of ships just out beyond that, for a far as you could see. Got the cable car back then went to Chinatown for tea. Had some seafood fried rice which had octopus tentacles, and what I'm pretty sure were tiny maggots in it... It tasted amazing though, and doesn't seem to have done much harm.
Today packed up wir bags then went for a walk round Fort Canning park. Visited Fort Canning Lighthouse which Grandpa tells me was designed and built by my great grandad, so that was nice. A funny peerie old man came and started speaking to wis and decided we needed a bit of a tour, so he took wis round, showing wis and handing wis various bits of leafs and fruits and trees. He seemed to keen a lot about it all though, and was delighted to have somebody to tell. Think he was just a bit lonely. Walked back for a bit by the river afore going to get wir stuff to get to the airport. Sitting in the airport now just waiting for the plane. Canna quite believe the first part of wir trip is nearly over OR that me and Karis, who both have the worst sense of direction in the world, have managed to travel through three countries, with five stops and have made it here intact! Pretty impressive I would say! Lets hope the rest of it goes as smoothly! Speak when we get to Australia!
