Going-with-the-flow as motto meant my plan changed as soon as I touched the ground. I met Rick at the landing and we both had to figure our way out. I decided go to Delhi instead of staying at the airport and getting an early flight north.
It was 11pm and all dark. Taking the cab to Pahar Ganj, the backpackers central of Delhi felt somewhat life threatening and exciting at the same time :) As good tourists we got ripped off by $1 in our first transaction as we didnt get the AC in the cab we had paid for. My $1 lesson-leanrt #1: add the rip off factor in the currency conversation rate - just then that was 33%! The drive to the city was like getting a pre-feel for the mess of India. We got onto Main Bazaar rd, it was dark, dirty, empty, smelly with a fair few stray dogs. But in no time it was all going to feel like home :)
While looking for a place to stay and we ran into some incredibly skinny cows eating trash, and got hassled to jump into rickshaws. Moral of the night: the first choice hotel is almost always right. Being kinda keen to move on, I stayed up till 5am aussie time studying flights and destinations for the next day.
