Day 1 continued: After a wee kip, we taxi'ed and heard stories from a Georgian (Georgia Russia) taxi driver about why he loves America compared to leaving behind poverty and snow! We travelled to a slick shopping centre and a great foodie place called the Farmers Market near Hollywood. Americans know how to set up a shopping centre! Large spacious shops with the occasional clothes rack! An amazing girls shop called "American Girl" (of course) that sells dolls ($100 each) with girlie attachments, accessories, including a doll called "Addy"! The Farmers market is a foodie area that has been around since the 1930's and has all these groovy food stalls and restaurants. Food from italian, (macaroni cheese for Lara and Finn), pizza for Addy and louisiana creole/gumbo for me, BIG burger for Connor! A bit of shopping and home to bed for a big first day!
Day 2 - Universal Studios
Up at 8ish and off onto the LA Metro (underground railway, didn't know they had one!) and one stop later at Universal studios for a 9am start. Very quiet and got on some great rides early, Finn included! Simpsons ride, Curse of the Mummy ride, Jurassic Park, great fun! Crowds pretty quiet until after 11am, then the place starting filling up and we kissed our purchased 'front of line' passes (thank you Addy). Finn met the Grinch with his dog Max (like talking to Jim Carrey). Weather was cold and got damn colder even with jumpers and fleeces. Pity I had neither! Made a bad executive decision to leave that behind! Got colder and saw a Grinch Xmas show to finish (great tree but even the hot chocolate wasn't keeping me warm!). We were getting tired (Addy was still sharp after her small snooze IN THE MIDDLE of the Terminator theatre explosions/shouting/lights show...) and we headed home by Metro and went to Johnny Rockets a classic american diner for dinner.
Day 3: A quiet one..
A cold night, a cosy apartment and we slept and slept and slept... The bears finally came out of hibernation at 11am! The troops were marshalled and we braved the elements (cold and rainy, like a cold melbourne winters day, Brissie doesn't get this cold! ) and we found "Mel's Diner" that has been around for 50 years. Waffles, pancakes, eggs and bacon later for brekky at 1pm , we then staggered out and walked the streets in search of a movie for the kids, but to no avail, all the 'new releases' weren't released yet! And a cinema complex with one PG movie and the rest 'R' rated! (not that kind of R movies..) We walked a few blocks heading towards home as the light rain and cold was set in. We headed home for a quiet dinner and DVD's and chilled for the day ahead.
Asta la vista baby!

Y&G Keep up the good work Paul - almost as good as being there. Can't believe you all slept so late.
