We left to the bus station early heading for Essaouira, no sooner had we gotten out of our petiti taxi were we approached by a guy asking us where we were going "don't worry I not tout, I work for bus company"... still asleep I stupidly told him our destination, he then whisked us to the ticket office grabbed 2 tickets "you pay bus driver"... and rushed us to the bus. We then got totally fleeced by the guy (a tout non the less), the ticket which should have cost 70 dirham was now 100 dirham, stunned and confused we handed over the money. Only once we had parted with the money did we realise we'd been ripped off... with the bus about to leave and the tout with our money we didn't have much negotiating power - ahhh. As it turned out almost all of the other Westerners on the bus had been 'touted' - maybe it was karma telling me I should have paid that darn donkey guy...
Arriving at Essaouira we were ready for the accommodation touts, we told them we already had a reservation, they immediately left us alone and went to hassle another poor traveller.
We've been in Essaouira now for 3 days, there isn't much to do here other than chill out. We've spent our days walking along the beach, eating fresh fish from the market stalls, aimlessley wandering around the medina... this really is the life, I am seriously contemplating taking up the occupation of permanent traveller.
During one of our wanders we stumbled upon a cute little tea shop where you can bring in your own food, and... strategically positioned across the lane is a shop that sells these huge doughnuts, needless to say we have spent a bit of time drinking tea and eating doughnuts!
We've also eaten the best dessert ever - orange à la cannelle (fresh orange segments sprinkled with cinnamon and sugar) - simple but delicieux!!
I've just spent the afternoon in a hammam being scrubbed and pampered, I am now a tan shade lighter but feel totally revitalised.
Tomorrow we were suppose catch a bus to Fez which would have taken 12 hours, we've decided to flag that idea and we are heading to Oualidida, another beach up the coast further... more relaxing!!
