Anski around the World
Kuala Lumpur, day #2
Today has been a day of random food experiences! I went to the Kuala Lumpur crafts centre which introduces local art, craft, textiles, pottery, furniture etc. It was a great visit, Malaysians use a lot of bright colours and wicked patterns, which is very much my thing. Anyway, there was a cafeteria where you could try traditional Malaysian food so I decided to go for it. Most of the stuff was pretty typical Asian food: rice, chicken, lots of spices, the usual, but some things I tried I was not able to regocnise...I assume it was chicken what I had. Very delicious though! All the fish there was cooked whole, with the head and fins and everything on, which is a bit spooky. I also tried a drink that I thought was fruit juice but turned out to be pink, strawberry flawoured milk...
For dinner I went to a Chinese restaurant and decided to try frog for the first time in my life. Very tasty, just had to try and ignore the fact that it looked like tiny bits of brain...
Malaysian people are so friendly! Yesterday I met this couple who were excited to meet someone from Finland because his cousin is about to move to Helsinki soon. They wanted to meet up with me for dinner later to hear about Finland, but I never saw them, because (as I later realized) I was waiting for them in the wrong place... =(
Later on, I was walking towards the city centre when it started raining, and this time it was proper hard-core tropical monsoon rain! I tried to hide under a tree but still got properly soaked. Then this guy in a delivery van honked at me and told me to get in (Ok,I can imagine people thinking 'what the hell is she doing, going into a strange dude's car in a strange country' but I actually still trust that people do nice things without any bad intents, and so far I have always been right). He asked me where I was going to, and conveniently he had a delivery for the Petronas towers so he said he'd drive me there, and 'there' was in fact the loading bay under the towers... I may have missed the change to go to the top of the towers but I don't think many people get the change to go under them! The guy was absolutely lovely, he only spoke like three words of English (which is three words more than I speak Malay so can't blame him!) but still he asked me questions about my travelling and stuff.
My train to Singapore is leaving at 10pm. Can't wait to get there, I've wanted to visit Singapore like forever!
