Yesterday, David and I cycled to the Melbourne Tennis Centre to pick up our tickets for the Australian Open which commences on Monday, 13 Jan. we had already ordered seats for the Rod Laver court and some day passes which is the equivalent of NOT having to queue up for Wimbledon! As Melbourne's botanical gardens are directly opposite the Tennis Centre, just across the river, we visited there next. An oasis is a busy city, the gardens are tranquil and very popular, with families having picnics on the lawns and a wedding take place amongst the beautiful trees and planting. We then cycled back along Melbourne's Southbank, weaving between the many pedestrians. I love that cycling is encouraged in the city with bikes available to hire (like Boris Bikes in London) with complementary helmets. There are as many cyclists as joggers and pedestrians all safely using traffic free precincts. I could not imagine trying to cycle in London safely but here It is one of many great ways to get around this wonderful city.
