Back over the state border into Victoria. Visited a fabulous town, Port Fairy. It is high on my list of places to live. The properties alongside the river are beautiful and the location is perfect. This part of Oz is full of planted pine plantations possibly covering millions of acres. the mature trees are cut down and transported in huge trucks to Portland, on the south coast of South Australia for processing and onward transportation by ship. The start of the GOR is Warrnambool, but having driven through there, it was decided to join the road at a prettier place! Drove onwards and dropped into a national park in Victoria located in an enormous extinct volcano crater. finally got to see LIVE kangaroos,( not road kill), emus, echidnas,( like large, long snouted hedgehogs). No koalas yet.Booked into a motel for the next two nights at Camperdown, a small town inland. Motel room is very large with an electric under blanket on the queen sized bed. As the temps are unseasonably low, this proved very welcome!
