Woke up at 10 and decided we wouldn't do the tour or jet skiing, we are hiring mopeds and driving through ko phangan ourselves! Baring in mind neither or us have driven a moped before! I only passed my driving text by fluke I reckon! First time and one minor! Please!!!!
Went to see Mai at half 10 at the hotel she works in to collect a map of the island! As we walked in arm the guy from cactus started chasing me down the street! Never run so fast!!! Haha
Had breakfast at a restaurant on the main road! Jam in toast! How very British!!!
Went to hire our mopeds from the guy mai recommended, haggled him down to 150 baht (£3) for the day! Sold! Had to sign a contract and give him a passport! They don't care if you can drive or if you have any experiences!
Guy said we didn't need helmets but we wanted them anyway! We are responsible! We asked him how to use it, he turned the key and turned the accelerator and showed me the brake then walked off! Seriously I'm going to die today.
Went to go and get fuel for the bikes which was 40 baht (80p) and set off!
Forgot how steep the hills were! It's mountainous here so the hills are massive and SO steep with cliffs on either side! The roads are not evenly tarmaced and are never straight they are always winding!
I really should have worn a nappy. I was petrified. We stopped about 5 times in the space of 20 minutes. I was shaking so bad and probably used my asthma pump to much!! Had about 5 mental break downs! Obviously Michael found all of this hilarious!
Thai people had like 4 people on a moped and don't slow down at all! They laugh at you when you go past as well! Bet my face was a picture!!!
After like 30 minutes of going up and down about 20 steep hills we got to the flatter part! Thank god. I was prepare to turn back but didn't want to go back through all the hills! Haha
Got lost on the way to the first water fall and me and Michael kept loosing each other! When we found each other I remembered it was probably a good idea to start using my mirrors and indicators! Oh by the way I had already gone through 2 red lights by the time but didn't die so it's all good!!!
Got to the first water fall we wanted to see and it was rubbish! A few big boulders with a little stream running though is NOT a waterfall! Come on Thailand, make an effort! There was elephants and monkeys there though! Beautiful.
Got so lost on the way to the next waterfall! We stopped to look at the map and when we started again I fell off the bike! Not cool with all school children laughing at you! GO BACK TO SCHOOL! Didn't hurt myself and I made sure the bike didn't hit the ground cos you have to pay 10.000 baht (£200) if it brake! Even though they probably cost about £3 in the first place!
It started chucking it down! Typical islands! So we stopped at a road side food hut! The first one sat us down gave us the menu then told us we had to wait till tomorrow for food??? All the other Thai people were eating! So we went next door.
Set back off again! Still chucking it down but we didn't want to ride back in the dark!
Went to the second waterfall where we met two other people! This one was called paradise waterfall... There wasn't any water in sight! What a joke! Has to walk through fields with long grass as well and you arnt supposed to walk through long grass without boots on as there is poisonous grass snakes! Great! Rabies here I come!
So set back off to the Chinese temple, going 60 mph in the pouring rain with no visor on my helmet! What a tool! My face was a picture! Also our insurance doesn't cover going on a moped so I had no choice! I couldn't fall off! Haha It's like wacky races on the roads here! With Thai people having an invisible middle lane! :|
After we drove past the temple 3 times we finally got there! We were the only ones there and a monk met us at the door! He was the cutest man ever! He took us over to the massive shrine where we sat on cushions lit candles and insents sticks! He gave me and Michael a bracelet each which he put on our wrists and blessed us. I asked him what he said but he didn't speak English. But others have had this done and apparently they say 'be happy, be safe' stuff like that! Darl! Give me a lift home and I'll be happy! Imagine me and a monk on a moped! This is my new life aim! We then bowed down to the shrine 3 times, had some grape juice, put a tip in the box and left! Michael had some water, I then told him it could be tap water! Someone's getting a funny tummy tomorrow ;)
Drove a bit further down the road to another temple, this one was brightly colour and so beautiful at the top of a mountain! Took lots of pictures!
Set of back home! We agreed that we would both just go our own pace on the way home as Michael likes to go fast and I like to drive like, well like my mother!
Got a bit lost on the way home and stopped to ask this lovely family where I was! I was going the right way though! Yey :) everyone is so lovely here!
Had 16.5 heart attacks going back over the mountain hills! Then finally got back to the moped shop! So proud of myself I never thought I would do it!! :)
Chilled till 10 when we met Kat and Claire (who we met in Chiang Mai!) stayed at cactus bar till 12! Claire realised she had her purse stolen with all her cards and money in! Went to find wifi so she would cancel everything!
Got in a taxi at 12 to the waterfall party! All four of us had to pay 300 baht (£6) to get in and we got a free drink! On the walk to the party after getting off the taxi, 6 different people came up to us and said that we need to watch out bags and drinks and that everyone was on drugs but not to buy any! Darl! Do I look stupid! Haha
To be fair though, they were all correct! Everyone was off there face! Some of the people in the party were, well I'd be surprised if they even knew there names! One guy was eating sand, a girl was doing rude things with the speakers etc etc! Loved watching all the idiots though! We got drinks and I decided it was probably a good idea to get bottles as we could stop people spiking us! Always the sensible drinker me! ;)
At the party met a couple of girls called Amy (aka kinga, snooki or lady boy) and Lauren! They are from jersey which I don't believe is a real place! There is no island between Britain and france!
Me and Michael have this thing where we only say we are from Yorkshire, but when people ask you where we have to say hull. Amy immediately told us she did a play that was based on hull and how it's the worst place to live in the UK! Absolutely fabulous! So proud!
There wasn't even a water fall it was a stream! Typical Thailand! We got uv painted though! Doesn't come out well in the photos! Ha
Got a taxi back to the beach at about 6!
The taxi ran over a girl on a moped on the way home!!!! He stopped, said sorry and drove on!!!! Only in Thai!!!
Me and Michael didn't want to go home so we sat with these 4 people and watched the sun come up on the beach! Was lush! Got in about 7!
