So got up at 7, got packed and ready for half 7. Walked to McDonald's, ate and got back before 8! It's a right rush being a travellers!
Came back at 7.56 but the bus had left without us, they always do a few circuits though so we caught it in a few minutes. Got the mini bus to a posh hotel in china town and the coach picked us up there.
The bus took 4 hours to get to Jerantut. This is where I checked into on my blogs but we are actually going to Taman Negara but there isn't anything there so it was the closest.
Had lunch in Jerantut and looked at prices for transport to get to the Perhentian Islands in a couple of days. You have to buy permits for your cameras to take photos in the rain forest, we told him our camera is on our phones so he said it didn't count and we didn't have to buy the 2 ringgit (40p) permit. It was only for digital cameras.
Got on the next bus which was an hour from the port, Michael had to sign a contract to say we wouldn't cause damage. If you got caught in the rainforest without it you get charged $1000, so you have to take it everywhere. Had to pay 50 ringgit (10p) to use the HIV smeared toilet while the guy watched me! My fabulous life in Asia!
Got on the long tail boat with about 20 other people. The boat is advertised to take 3 hours motoring along the river through the rain forest.
There was this stupid old woman getting the boat to stop for every little speckle of leaf so she could take a photo, seriously sit down and shut up or your going overboard.
A spider decided to pay us a visit, I know we are travellers and have to deal with it but these poison filled deamonds from the deep are not my friends!!!! It crawled on a guys tshirt and I was to scared to tell him. It crawled on my bag as well and I pray that it didn't lay it's deamon eggs.
After 3 suicidal hours I was ready to leave this rain forest and we hadn't even arrived in the village yet! The couple in front were possible candidates for 'soppy couple 2012' and I was ready to vomit all over them! Put your hands on your knees, your eyes in front and your mouth closed!!!!
Arrived at the main area and got off at the floating restaurant and travel agent. Had a compulsory talk from a guy about booking tours, he actually wants people to trek through the rain forest at night. I'm suicidal but not that much!!
We checked into Daliki Hostel into a dorm room, we had the whole room to ourselves! It's 15 ringgit (£3) each night.
Went to eat at the floating restaurant, it literally is floating in the middle of the river, it's attached to the land with a couple or ropes and you get to it by walking on a plank of wood and hoping for the best.
The people here look different, it's mostly boys as I reckon the girls are inside somewhere, they look like the boy from jungle book, I cant remember what he's called? They dress in normal clothes though! Shame...
Asked the travel agent guy (guy in boxers sat at a 3 legged table, eating noodles) how to get to the Perhentian Islands and that we had discount at the other place. He said you could only get a boat and he wouldn't give us discount so we will come back tomorrow to book it.
Walked back to the hostel, chilled for a while and then decided we should shower before it gets dark!
The shared bathroom here is a joke. It's a cubical with 3 walls in a warehouse looking thing and one of the walls has a pattern of holes in so everyone in the warehouse can see you do everything! Great YouTube here I come! It was scary so me and Michael showered together in our bikinis, Michael had a one piece though! ;) hahaha
The shower was the most traumatic experience of my life! Joining us in the meter square shower/toilet room was a lizard, frog, 72 mosquitoes and 39 diseases. The shower didn't work so they had a bucket filled with freezing water to use. The locals sometimes only have these in there houses apparently so they are used to it! The freezing screams were heard from China (which I'm still not bitter about not getting into... b****es).
Michael thought the frog was a tea bag until it jumped! All we kept thinking was 'it's one for the blog' but if we didn't write blogs I would have got the first flight home! Its going to get dark soon and I doubt this shack has a light!
Even though we were making a lot of noise and there is a couple of other cubicals I boy did 'accidentally' walk in, the only reason I screamed was because the door hit the frog who jumped practically on me and I nearly went head first into the shower bucket and Michael into the toilet! I'm sure this jungle book boy had never seen such a scene! I'm never going to get out of this shower alive!!!
Got back to the room and the beds have inch thin mattresses made of sponge on the steel bunk bed frame! No sleep tonight then!
Wrote blogs for a while then it started to rain, this rain forest rain is no joke either! Everyone's complaining about the rain at home but they are delusional! Literally rivers running down the sides of our hostel walls. You can hear thunder for a couple of seconds at home, here it lasts at least 10 seconds! The lightening lights up the whole room!
Looked up at the window we had previously locked and saw a guys shadow walk up to it and try to slide open the doors! With the lightening flash behind him I nearly died!! Someone trying to come and kill me! I decided if he did get in Michael should sacrifice himself for me! He should be the gentleman...
