Madrid
Madrid was a nice place to be for 5 nights. There isn't a lot to do which explains why nobody recommends it, but it is a nice city. Getting there was easy because I caught the bus and then got a taxi to my hostel. The hostel wasn't the best - it had a good social atmosphere but the staff were rude and the rooms were so cramped! I was on the top bunk, which wasn't easy to get up and down, and the beds creaked so much! It didn't bother me too much because I didn't need too much sleep.
The language barrier was still really bad in Madrid. I don't think they want to be able to speak English, which is understandable. Alana and Megan from my Contiki were in Madrid at the same time as me! We had a lot of fun and went out on the pub-crawl for a night. Unfortunately Cyd was in so much pain for the first few days and she wasn't able to make it, as she wants to be feeling good for her birthday in 3 days! We met a group of three guys from Newcastle and they came on the pub-crawl. One of them is a friend of one of Mitch's friends! Being over here makes me realise how small the world is…I've met connections to home nearly everywhere I've been on this trip!
Last night we went out to the movies and saw the Disney film "Brave". It was all right, funny in parts. I was asleep by midnight and checked out of the hostel at 9 this morning to get to the airport. I decided to get public transport to the airport because I'll be catching a taxi from San Sebastian Airport to our hotel because they don't have a train system and I find buses difficult to get right. The metro to Madrid Airport only cost me 2 euro and was really easy. I walked from my hostel to a more popular station than the one close by and it cut out half an hour of travel! I'm at the airport a few hours early (as usual) but I don't mind too much. I'd rather be early than late! I'm really happy that I'll only have two more taxis to catch on this trip! They're long rides though unfortunately. The Airport Hilton has a shuttle bus from Madrid Airport and that makes everything easier.
There is no WiFi at Madrid Airport unless you want to pay $20. I was warned that this airport was really bad but it's worse than I expected! There is absolutely nothing to do. There are a couple of restaurants and magazine shops, but everything is in Spanish so there's nothing to read.

Dad Hey Youngann, Madrid sounds like a bit of a bummer so I will avoid this if ever I get to Spain. You are in a much nicer place now and I hope that Cyd and yourself have a great time in San Sebastian. Can you send Cyd my best for her birthday tomorrow. Fingers crossed, you can both enjoy the day spa and have a nice dinner and a few drinks at the end of the day. Not too long now before you head back home. We have all missed you very much and although it may be sad when you leave Europe at least you know there is plenty of good things back in Sydney. The weather is warming up to with 26 degrees and sunny today. Talk soon and lots of love - LOL, Dad
Mum Hi baby girl, it is a small world afterall. It's amazing who you bump into when overseas. Hope you enjoy the relaxed atmosphere of San Sebastian and hope Cyd is now well and enjoying her birthday. I have been enjoying the photos that were posted on facebook by you and others. It looks like you had the best time in Greece, island hopping in the sun. I have been working hard cleaning and renovating GP and it is starting to look really good. The carpet is being laid as I type. Got a quote from Bunnings - it took him three weeks to visit the house, then he informs me it will take another 5 weeks before installation - 8 weeks all up so dad called Darrel and within three days I have the right carpet without hassle - we love Darrel. We are really looking forward to seeing you next week. The weather here is just glorious so Dad and I will be spending about 4 days in Werri. We still have some work to do so Ziggy will spend Monday and Tuesday at the beach house. Won't rattle on too much about domestics so will sign off now and enjoy your last few days in Spain. Love mummy xx
