On this site we don't believe in stereotyping nationalities. It's lazy, and it's wrong. But it's funny. And if you go on an 8 day tour and people (broadly) follow these stereotypes, then we believe it can possibly make for amusing reading...
Cast: England (Dave, Nicky from Bristol), Australia (A-M), Ireland (Bridgid), Germany (Alex), Switzerland (Corinna), Belgium (Christine), Old Dutch woman (Hetty), Young Dutch (Josie), Japan (Kossy)
0630 start on our trip to Adelaide from Perth. Alex (Germany) seems nice enough, but his measured tones and clinically precise way of talking are rather reminescent of Herr Flick from Allo Allo. He has brought his own maps along so our driver (Jo) has had a forensic investigation of most of the driving moves she has made and their relative efficiency. 1230 lunch at Corrigin where they have a giant Ute (with a dog in) on top of a petrol station roof (http://www.telecentres.wa.gov.au/news/article.asp?articleID=6).
Late afternoon: arrive in hot sun at a campsite near Wave Rock, which has a beautiful, cool swimming pool. Germany tries to garner interest in a short walk. 'I don't like just sitting around, it is boring'. The stout walk ends up being a solitary affair. Evening: Ireland, England, Australia and Holland are all on the beers. Switzerland seems neutral.
