Our overnight train from Melbourne to Sydney was cancelled. In its place we had an overnight bus! How we laughed! Under the circumstances it could have been worse, and at least we were used to overnight buses from China, Laos etc.
Checked into our apartment in Wollstonecroft (North Sydney), and after admiring the views (270 degrees of Sydney skyline, including a good view of the bridge) we immediatedly decided to catch up on some sleep.
Hazel, Ian and Scott arrived mid morning and after a quick catch up we headed off to Woolworths to get the the essential NYE requirements (ie food and booze). We ate in for the 'childrens' fireworks at 21.00 to see whether our view of the bridge was sufficient to warrant staying in for the main event. The verdict was a resounding 'yes' and so by midnight we were celebrating the new year on our balcony as the ipod speakers pumped out some suitably euphoric trance as a background. The party really got started once some older skool tunes (get Europe - The Final Countdown) were put on, and the apartments cleaning mops could be utilised as air guitars....
