20 hours later we finally arrived in Koh Phangan where we were greeted by a man with a sign ready to take us to our hostel, what we didn't realise was that there was around 15 people to fit in a truck that had 5 seats and an open boot...safe to say I'm glad I made it to the hostel without falling out the back! Our hostel was one with the best views yet, you could chill out in the pool, with house music pumping in the background and a view overlooking the sea. Our room however only had a fan so it was sweat fest galore in there, although we did have the nicest host who insisted in opening the connecting bedrooms door to steal their air con. This was a great idea until all the lads from the other room got back in from their night out and 3 of which decided to pile onto my bed as it was closest to the door...the girls were of course all "asleep" so I had to deal with them myself ha
The next day was full moon day, we decided to go all out and get tie dye tops...to get to the shop our host was the best and lent us his scooter (although we were a bit worried as half our hostel was limping around after crashing their scooters, oh and one guy even had to pay £5000, yup 5000 English pounds because he managed to crash his into the back of someone's van). But taking all that into consideration Rhiannon and Sarah still hopped on the back and we managed to get there and back in one piece. So with a bottle of Hong Thong in hand, Thailand's finest whiskey, we painted each other in UV paint (it seemed I turned into an artist after painting half the hostel) and had a little pre session in our hostel, we then made our way to the beach. The beach was packed with people dancing on stages with buckets in hand...it was an experience to say the least.
So after 4 days of Koh Phangan we headed two hours north to Koh Tao. We decided to treat ourselves and opt for a three bed resort on the beach, I mean for the difference of £2 it's hard to say no. Me and Rhiannon took a little stroll on the beach where Rhiannon asked me the most bizarre question..."does your fanny feel a bit weird when you walk on sand?"...no Rhiannon I can't say it does! We spent the first night enjoying the beautiful sunset and then headed to Lotus bar which was on the beach front with guys performing fire shows, blasting music and happy hour on buckets. After plenty of buckets, dancing on benches and performers lighting peoples cigarettes by lying on the floor and swinging fire in their faces (glad I'm not a smoker) it was safe to call it a night.
To cure our hangovers the next day me and Rhiannon decided to try a chicken skewer off the side of the street....my god it was absolute heaven....if that didn't cure a hangover I don't know what would. The day after we took a snorkelling trip around 5 bays. First one being shark bay, where I was 1m away from a guy who saw one, so that counts as seeing one right? For the rest of the bays we were surrounded by hundreds of fish, some even coming right up to your face. We also attempted to get some Gopro shots under water but it became apparent that looking elegant under water is much harder than we thought!
It was time again to hop over to another island but this time via a night boat, that wasn't the best of ideas. It turned out to be a giant spooning session as all the so called beds were attached. However I should call myself lucky that I didn't have to sleep outside like others did. We eventually arrived in Krabi where we were offered to do a 4 island tour, so me and Rhiannon powered through our sleepiness and joined our hostel on the tour. I'm really glad we did, we got to the islands which were surrounded by limestone cliffs, got to climb through caves, snorkel and end up on a tiny island to watch the sunset. Oh and not to forget playing catch the egg, the game didn't end great for me as I ended up covered in egg after it smashed all over my legs, losing to Rhiannon who didn't realise she had the sporting capability to win ha. After getting back to the hostel we decided to go downstairs for a 'casual' drink which ended up being beer pong and flip cup and then going on a bar crawl....'casual' drink just doesn't exist over here. We got to one bar and were told that out of around 10 women that worked there only 2 were actually real women, I still don't know which ones it was!
We hit up another beach in Krabi which again was beautiful and incredible to be lying on a beach surrounded by marble mountains. The sea on the other hand seemed to have an extra layer of gunk on top but I mean you can't win everything. Again I was faced with another bizarre comment this time coming from Sarah..."I'm going to get out the sea because it's making my fanny tingle" I'm learning a lot from these two and their weird body functions from the beach haha.
It was time again to explore another island so we headed to Koh Phi Phi where the film 'the beach' was filmed. Now it would only be us that think it's a good idea to drink 2 litres of wine the night before a boat trip to the Maya bay, where it was filmed. My first proper hangover was very much apparent, it was about time really. We powered through anyway and got to go to monkey island where you could go right up to the monkeys and feed them. Although you didn't want to get too close as one guy found out and got pounced on by one ha. It was so cute watching the baby monkeys play and watching them grip onto their mothers belly as she walked across the beach. We stopped off at what seemed like a lake in the middle of the ocean where we got to just float and take in the amazing cliffs which surrounded you and the clear blue water. We reached Maya bay which again was a breathtaking view (and I mean Leonardos body was once on that beach so that was also a nice touch haha). We were then taken to turtle cave, where we saw 0 turtles but as we jumped in were told there were two sharks in the water...again I was 1m behind Rhiannon and Sarah who saw a giant shark swim underneath them (I even heard Sarah scream through her snorkel) but did I see it...nope...however I was yet again just meters away from one so I'll take that! We ended our trip watching one of the clearest sunsets yet and got to jump into the sea in the dark and swim with planktons. To finish off our day we headed for dinner where Rhiannon decided to order herself two dishes, how she managed to finish a main of mussels and falafels I still don't know.
So to throw a spanner in the works we decided to give the islands a break and pop over to Hong Kong, as you do. So goodbye islands you have been incredible, hello Hong Kong.
