Less than one week to go!
This time next week I will be in Auckland, hopefully the weather will be better there than here, (currently raining here). I have had all of my injections now and also have my malaria tablets too, (they cost a fortune - thanks Dad!). At the moment I feel quite prepared, I have another set of glasses. I thought it would be best to take a spare pair, as you all know how clumsy I am and I can't be missing out on any sights! For Christmas, I got lots of things to take with me. My Auntie Julie got me lots of bits, but I feel that one item in particular is in need of a mention. She got me some toilet seat covers! For all of you that know me I am not a fan of toilets. There are ten in a pack and I have two packets. I was going to test one out in my toilet but I thought that I best save them for emergencies. I know that along the way there will be a lot of toilet emergencies, that is one part of the trip I am not looking forward to - using all those foreign toilets! My mum got me a head torch! It's amazing and so bright! I think I might out do Robs torch now!I wore it during my Christmas dinner just to test it out and every time I looked up Ellie couldn't see as the torch kept shining in her eye.
I now have my rucksack. I went with Charlotte to purchase it. To make sure that the bag fitted me properly the man filled it up with some large sand bags - as soon as they were loaded in I nearly fell over. My legs went to jelly and had to hold on to Charlotte to walk around the shop to make sure it was comfy. I think I need to cram in some more last minute gym sessions! The bag has had a test run to Charlotte's house and held up well.
The bag was full of a nights worth of clothes and shoes etc! I do not know how I am going to cope. I turned up at her door and she looked a bit startled at the sight of me in my pyjamas and a fully loaded rucksack, her step brothers friend certainly did! My shoes I feel that my new shoes need a mention. I have to say that I have been putting off buying some comfy walking shoes for a while and I could not put it off any longer, as I need to wear them in. As I type they are currently on my feet. I have a phobia against walking shoes. The first time I went to look at some I was with my friend Mandy. I said to her they are not very stylish, then a customer in the shop said, it's not about style its all about comfort. I then said, I have to look my best, you never know who I could meet in the outback! Since then I have entered the shop a fair few times, in the hope there might be some new ones, but no. So, when me and Ria went to visit my Auntie Julie who lives in East Sussex, I made a purchase. Me, Ria, my Auntie and her friend, Wendi, went from shop to shop looking for shoes. We went in a fair few shops, in the end I did find a pair of shoes. I had a choice of colour, black or blue, I opted for the blue pair as they are roughly the same colour as my backpack! I think when I had actually purchased them everyone breathed a sigh of relief! I do not know why I was so worried about them matching as I often leave the house in clothes that do no match. Whilst at Auntie Julies, we went for a dog walk on the forest. Ria laughed at my clothes and said you can't wear that, I replied that dog walking is not a fashion show!
